Would you currently rate your current living quarters as a pigsty or spotless and well ordered? I will skip the 1-10 rating thing.

Pigsty, but every so often I will get a large burst of energy and if I don't know what to do with it I end up cleaning my room so it's spotless and well ordered... for like a day.

It's so-so I think. One day a week I spend like 12 hours doing housework and clean, but next day it all goes to shit as if I didn't even bother to waste my time like that. I also have to clean when I cook or tidy up rooms in the days between but all for nothing. So yeah.

In between right now.

In my heyday I liked to keep things absolutely spotless. I even went as far as having power points installed inside cupboards so that the kettle and microwave would be hidden from sight. Somehow I went from that to a pigsty of stuff all over the floor as energy levels went down, in part because of not having people over anymore (due in part to lockdowns but also becoming more isolated in general). Now I'm trying very hard to go back to how things used to be. Managed to finish mowing the lawn properly yesterday for the first time in probably years! So there's definitely a mental health connection.

I try to clean but my room is always a mess. I think it is hard to clean when there is a lot of items. I cannot bring myself to throw items out. It is all so depressing. I hate cleaning.

I need the 1-10 rating.

My room is probably a 6, but the rest of my living area is a 0-2, some areas are hoarder level (not my decision).

Yea I'm pretty sure most of us don't have the energy, motivation, or means to actually keep our living areas the way we would want them if different circumstances allowed for it. Same for things like hygiene, clothing style, general neatness and orderliness etc.
Meanwhile other people somehow have the time and stamina to tailor each and every little thing around them to their liking, everything from the font on their phone to making their bullet journals into works of art..and having a home that looks practically staged.
I'm just like..bro, good for you but some of us be dying out here.

Same, I don't have enough space for all my shit and I can only put it in so many places because there is another human presence in the home that likes to destroy things daily.
Most of it is sentimental knick-knacks.

I like when other people's houses are messy and chaotic, makes me feel more comfortable and I don't have to deal with any obnoxious anal nonsense, nor do I have to worry as much over being accused of "ruining" anything.

Not amazing, not awful. It's messy, but not disgusting.
Not as much of a concern anymore, but I used to find some practicality in being moderately messy. It would keep me from ever inviting guests over! Not that I had many people to invite, but I know that I would regret having people over. Still, I might have a rare moment where I was considering it, and the mess would always make sure the answer was no :-)

because i grew up in a hoarder house, i have an obsession with keeping my living space as far from that as possible. i spend time daily cleaning up, dusting, and organizing. If i don't, i start to go a little crazy.

it is clean and slightly messy but not spotless. I give it 7/10. I can never make it spotless

Well I'm going to give it a rating anyway because it's an easy way to explain. I'd say 8/10, taking off two points because I'm almost always behind on my dishes. :')

It's well ordered. I was raised and neglected in a poverty-stricken messy home. A cop came to my house when I was a child and said it was the worst conditions he ever saw. Now as an adult I have breakdowns when my house is out of place. I don't mind being in other people's houses that are messy. I have a high tolerance and I completely understand the ways we fall behind. I just hold this judgment on myself and I need my place in order. It's a trauma for me.

My apartment is mildly clean. I used to love cleaning when I was younger and not so much anymore. I vacuum and dust every few months and wash the floors whenever I feel like it. I wipe down surfaces often though and keep the bathroom fairly clean.

I think he was angry with my parents. They had gotten into a domestic dispute and it was clear us kids were in a bad environment. Of course as a kid you internalize the criticism though. I was always cleaning as best I could but I was too young to keep up on my own.

I was never anal about cleanliness/clean house, but I used to keep things cleaned up; I'd vacuum regularly, keep the bathroom and kitchen cleaned and sanitary, generally kept things around the house neat and orderly as possible. But as I've gotten sicker, mentally and physically, and become essentially totally isolated (no one comes over and haven't in years and years) I just don't have the motivation or energy to clean. I clean up spills in the kitchen, wipe down the bathroom, every once in awhile on a good day if I have a bit of energy I'll clean the tub and such. But otherwise, I truly would classify my home as a pigsty. Too much clutter and nowhere to put it, floors haven't been washed in ages, it's dusty here, the walls are covered in some kind of black soot that's been coming out of the vents for the last 2 yrs (building has looked into it but just says 'we don't know, sorry'), the carpeting has been destroyed by the cats and is old and stained and dirty and hasn't been cleaned or replaced in over 17 years, and it's all so overwhelming so basically I feel like "Why bother?" - especially as it takes SO MUCH out of me to even lightly clean. There's no way to clean and organize this place now, it's too far gone. Sometimes I actually wish my apartment building would have a fire that'd destroy the entire place, as at least then all this mess would be gone and it'd all be out of my hands. I wouldn't want everone else in the building to have to suffer a loss like that though....
