What hobbies do you/did you have? Is there any activity you want to start doing, or wish you could?

Right now my only hobby is dancing, I do hip hop at the moment and I'm planning on starting ballroom/latin next week. I was looking for jazz dance classes as well but the only ones I can find require huge trembly payments which sucks.

I used to do karate (considering starting it again) and for a very brief period of time I tried volleyball. I used to draw, write and read a lot but I usually lack the motivation and creativity to now, and the extent of my reading is the news, and occasionally magazines about history, technology, science and psychology.

And one think I wish I could do was ice skate! There isn't an ice rink or anything nearby though, so my only chance of learning is waiting for puddles to freeze over... which probably isn't the best idea, but it's something, lol.

They're as basic as they get.
I play guitar (I'm shit at it, but it's cathartic), write shitty short stories, read when my anxiety allows and I used to play tennis but now I've got no one to play with.
And if drinking is a hobby then that, too.

I used to play piano, always wanted to play guitar but never could. I'm sure you're good at it though, and at writing short stories too :)

My main hobbies used to be reading a lot, travelling abroad and learning languages. Nowadays my hobbies are video gaming, Netflix and watching livestreams. I've got rid of every single book I own in preparation as I've been emptying my flat.

I'd love to go travelling, what countries have you been to? And I used to learn lots of languages too, I gave up after a while though

I used to like painting, and back when I had more money it was traveling and cars. I would visit some fairly far flung places, and I enjoyed rotating my car pretty often and tinkering with it. Now due to depression, poverty and illness I'm down to the usual movies/video games etc. I have no more motivation to paint and the only vacations I take are through Google earth.

Guitar is stupid easy if you know how to play piano. It requires literally zero theory (I can't read sheet music and have just the faintest understanding of what a scale is) and it's fairly intuitive to play if your ear is already trained. I'd say give it a go, get a used acoustic or electric depending on what kind of music you want to play, follow some tutorial online and you should get pretty decent within a year or so.

The only real hobby I have that hasn't been mentioned yet is cutting myself. I enjoy that quite a lot, I hope it counts.

Love the thread, @15dec
I love the idea of the dance classes you do, they sound good fun.

I used to like playing the piano and reading, used to do a different evening class every year just to set my son a good example and prove education is life-long. Sadly since my breakdown I can't read properly - only short passages and I barely leave the house.

Sad how the things we used to love doing just get scattered as we struggle to just get by!

I like reading too, I rarely ever finish a book regretting having read it, and unlike other hobbies the words change me in some way or another, and never fail to cause a lasting impression. I used to travel a lot, but to be honest even though people say that travelling broadens the mind, I think reading broadens it a whole lot more. Through reading we can travel back through time and read the minds of some of the greatest thinkers, and so it's like we've met some of those people even though they lived thousands of years ago. Interests include mostly history and philosophy.

I'm fascinated by wildlife and grew up watching David Attenborough, and love taking photos and short footage of animals, especially insects and life in the undergrowth, the life that goes on without us even noticing. When I went to the Great Barrier Reef it was like a whole new world opened up to me, and that experience was the second best of my life; the first being the one and only time I saw the whole sky lit up like a Christmas tree as if it were alive with stars and could even see the Milky Way which cut right through the night sky. I only saw this as there was a power cut where I was staying with my ex in a remote town of a developing country, I'd never seen it before and sincerely doubt I'll ever see it again. It was like there was no atmosphere and no gravity either, and nothing separating the earth from the stars. When people say that civilisation has made leaps and bounds especially through technology, they forget what has been taken from us. The ancients would have seen night skies like this daily and had no need for satellites taking photos of some distant planets, they only had to look up.

Unity3D is good for recreating little ecosystems, and I used to use that a lot, but I try to avoid it now as it's incredibly time-consuming. And as I work self-employed I've had to cut back on all my hobbies (except reading) as I'm currently not making a fraction of what's needed to even break even, and this month I've had to use up over half of my remaining savings. I'm also trying to taper off clonazepam which I started taking years ago for insomnia and even cutting back from 3mg to 2mg daily plays havoc with my mind, and so just reading becomes a challenge, so I can understand what JustAboutDone is saying, as reading does require concentration otherwise you end up just reading letters without absorbing anything. Though I still think reading is of the most benefit, and even more so when death is nearer, as something does have to be done to calm the mind and make death seem welcoming, as nothing else will.

Past hobby's: Building and performance modifying computer systems and gaming, Car detailing, Performance modifying my own car and maintenance.

Now: driving arround if you can even call it a hobby. It's the only thing i can still afford out of all the above and have the "energy" to do ... I made stupid choises because of loneliness and blown alot of money on it. So yeah...

Sad how the things we used to love doing just get scattered as we struggle to just get by!

This.

I spent a lot of time working outside, landscaping. Perennial flowers, trees, shrubs.....most of my neighbors said our place looked like a botanical garden.
