So I was just thinking about bizarre scenarios which I am prone to do, curious about others thoughts...

If everyone in the world who wanted to live suddenly died and the only people left to inhabit the earth were those who feel suicidal, would you still want to ctb? (animals and wildlife would remain unchanged)

I still would want to ctb. However, if every mentally healthy person died and there were only mentally ill people left to inhabit the earth it might be different.

Playing with the idea in my head a bit to see if I can come up with a scenario where I'd want to stay alive. It's hard. My reasons to CTB doesn't depend on other people (only my reasons to live and/or recover), so why would I want to stay if that happened?

I guess I could stay around for a while and help others, maybe create a real-life SS community to bring everyone together. Make sure disabled people get the help they need etc. Then once we have a peaceful pro-choice world, I'd break into a vet clinic and see if I can't find some N. Share it with everyone else who also wants it and then drink it myself.

How does that sound?

Very thought provoking question.

It does sometimes occur to me that I, to some extent, make a positive contribution to society. I'm a teacher, and I work hard, so I hope I don't sound arrogant in saying that. However, I'm also incredibly aware that somebody else could just as easily do what I'm doing, someone else would take over all the roles. I don't say this out of pity, but it has to be more or less true, statistically speaking. In other words, we're so overpopulated that my death wouldn't impact the earth in any way. Take the concept of over-population away – does that change? Maybe I'd feel more obliged to stay and contribute to trying to rebuild humanity.

Also begs the question where is the line drawn for "mentally ill"? I know you asked about suicidal people in your original question, but would it make that much difference if it was everyone with a mental illness? Every person with mild anxiety or mild depression stayed? Food for thought, and a great question @Suicide_vampire.

I'm not sure. I'd miss the people I love, but I'm quite good at coping with the deaths of others, so maybe I could cope. If my abusers want to live and they died then I might want to live- I have loved ones who are also suicidal to varying degrees, so you never know, maybe my friends and family would be okay lol. It would depend a lot as well on whether or not I could still access my meds, even if the people who've hurt me were dead, it still wouldn't be worth living if I was hallucinating again, because I'd still be living in constant fear/terror without my antipsychotics

You're joking . This lot ??

Bunch of sick depressed anxious disabled deranged people , full of pain and misery , IRL ... Sounds lovely! :blarg:

Real life SS would be terrible . Without a buffer like the internet we would kill each other within 2 days. lol (which isn't so bad after all? ahh ... loopy logic!)

I think the world would be a very different place if it was just the ones in pain who were left, perhaps more empathy...? I think i would stay for a bit longer to experience that!

I'm reminded of The Quiet Earth. The only man left alive is so because he was committing suicide at the time

If everyone in the world who wanted to live suddenly died and the only people left to inhabit the earth were those who feel suicidal, would you still want to ctb? (animals and wildlife would remain unchanged)

Your question seems simple, but really, is it? I mean how is the "wanted to live" considered? Is it based on a question like 'want to live? nope? HA life for you!' what about you? Yes? ROFL Worm food!' Would people know the outcome, or is it something tied into your brain. But then tied into survival? Hope? A person with a terminal illness may secretly hope it'd be cured so they could be with their family, but as they know it won't in their life, they may want to ctb. Would it be an overall feeling? or just a millisecond of a day, where you 're like "I feel great!' then you die because you felt great, even though you were going home to ctb.

Well, you get the idea. But as others mentioned, how bad do you think it'd be for people who were hanging on just for their loved ones, only to find their dead now. It would have the effect of basically killing everyone, or for most practical purposes doing so.

I know, you wanted a "yep, still do it" or "no, it'd get rid of my problems", but I don't really think that way ;)

All I know is, the earth would look so much better after humans and the "wildlife and animals" moved in.
