I have some serious medical issues and I cannot wait much longer to go. I am deeply concerned for both of my sons, either death or another stroke will put my son on the streets...He uses a wheelchair. He cannot bend or use his back to turn. I put on his socks when he goes out, make sure groceries are on the counter so that he can reach them, get things from the fridge when asked. I do all the housework, get the mail and groceries, do the laundry, etc. He will not survive on the streets, and no one will intervene on his behalf. I live in Canada, and no...there is no one to turn to for help. I have tried, as has he, for several years now to see if there is any way I can assure his existence after I am gone. There isn't. It is going to cost hundreds of dollars to get his wheelchair fixed, and the only way we can pay for it is to go hungry for a month. It is absolutely essential though, and must be done. I am fresh out of ideas. A room mate is unlikely due to the care he requires, and the money which will be used for the wheelchair will come out of the grocery money and the little bit of extra for him to have at least one month of my share of the rent. If anyone has any ideas...please let me know. Thank you.

Well, let's brain storm and see if we can come up with something. Do you have any friends or relatives that can help you? Do you have any possessions you could sell to get by for a while?

Unfortunately not for this, and everything that could be sold has been. Cancer surgery 2015. The employment insurance I received did not cover monthly costs at the time and all the extras were sold then. The biggest problem is the amount of care he requires just to survive... it is a lot of work.
Thank you Sensai...thank you.
All of my relatives died in the eighties. I have only my two sons left, and my eldest is not in a position to help in any way, which will kill him too. It is a quandary. The few friends I do have can not provide the care required, and even the few I know of with room for him, could never maintain the cleanliness required for a healthy existence.

Unfortunately, I don't know how the social security system works in your country. What kinds of support can citizens get?

For this...none. He would be on a waiting list for housing, and that takes years. A room to rent would take almost every penny from his monthly income, no one wants someone with an electric wheelchair, and then their is dressing and cleaning...no help for that. We have had prior experience with the wheelchair issue. We were victims of 'renoviction', called 44 different places and saw one apartment. As soon as a wheelchair was mentioned we were denied access. We saw one place in all that time, and took it...no choice.

Donations would not help. He needs a place to live and someone willing to do the things he cannot. And yes, there are such places but they only help with items, not living.

Alright. Where I live, there are nursing homes for people suffering from disability which fetch reasonable prices. Don't you have something like that in Canada?

If you cannot pay for it...there is a long waiting list. The streets here are replete with those like my son.
Go Fund Me?
That helps with single items, but not housing.

We do not live in Ontario, but I can assure you that much of what I have found in this province will be the same out east. Endless waiting lists. Thank you for trying though.

Call the one in Ontario or google and look for a similar program in your area.
I am already, as is he, on the lists here, and have gone through every channel open to us including the Shriners, Lions, Sally Anne...etc. But please if you can come up with something else I will certainly try it. Thank you so much for all you are doing.
Thank you for the homeless hub site, but unfortunately there may be changes coming, but not soon enough for us, and not necessarily here. We have even contacted our political party, and they have helped, but the housing?...there is nothing they can do.

Very little Sensai.

Okay, this is a bit far out, but I'm brain storming. I know that families in need have used crowdfunding to e.g. fund expensive surgery. I know too little about crowdfunding to suggest a suitable platform, but maybe there's someone here who can.

I know very little about it too Sensai, but he would need care for years...not just once...it really is a quandary.

I'm thinking that if you can get some money now, you could find a temporary solution for your son while exploring other options.

Prices are ridiculously high here Sensai...it takes two of us to pay the rent on this dreadful place...but I shall think more deeply on that when I have some more time. Thank you.

Well. I did not have a group like this to talk to about such issues, and now, thankfully I do...smile. Silver lining in every cloud, but I do have to come up with something very soon.
