Discussion Have you ever seen a suicide in person?

What was it like?
Personally, I was on my way to Orange County and a man was hanging on an overpass. My mom was in the car and she started driving a little faster.
Unpleasant.

Not really seen it but I found the body.
The first thing I remember is being shocked and unable to react, I stayed a long time just watching the body without being able to persuade myself that it was real.
After a while I just sat and called my doc, I've known him for a long time and he's one of the few people I trust. He came and took care of things.

I think it depends of how important the person was to you.
It was my girlfriend and she killed herself 3 years ago. The second I saw her body I knew without even having to check that she was dead.
It killed me too.

i found bf dead. i did not freeze but instinctively gave him cpr. I knew it was pointless and saw that he was dead, but I couldn't help myself. that image and the sound from his lungs constantly haunt me. i go through his process of dying every night in my head... as burnedCookie said, it killed me too.

How do you ever keep going after that?

I found my moms body (from partial hanging). It was pretty scarring and at the time I went into shock

I found my brother's body while going to get waffles from the outside freezer. Just sitting there on the couch we kept in the garage dead and white. I froze and just stood there long enough for my father to come looking then he shoved me inside and I just got back in bed. I replay that morning a lot, 20 years later.

I've found other dead bodies, watched people od in front of me. That stuff has been easy to forget.

Haven't watched a person commit suicide, but I did talk to an old friend about 10 minutes before he did knowing full well what he was about to do, at the time I'd considered dying with him even. It was 1am, dark with only a few small pier lights on. Never said goodbye, we just smiled at each other and he walked one way down the dock, I walked the other way. Didn't watch him die, but I was the last person he saw.

I haven't seen any confirmed suicides, but I have seen a lot of dead bodies and people die as a paramedic and nurse. The images stick in my head - I think about them when friends here CtB or when I think about my plans. Death burns into your mind

No, thank goodness. My bf was considerate enough to not ctb in our home but I still had nightmares of him shooting himself in the head.
