My point is that if you smoked, were self-harming, were obese or did drugs or something else, and then got off of it (i mean not all at once, at least one thing at a time is enough), you're a hero and you've accomplished a lot. Now you can share your experience and receive praise and many words of support for your progress, etc. But if you didn't do any damage to yourself from the start, then you're just an ordinary person and you haven't achieved anything.

be careful, you are basing your current well-being on the comparison and that is dangerous
base yourself on self-love, that now you do not destroy yourself because you have understood, forgiven and begun to love yourself
For my part, I have not been injured or anything you mention, according to your definition I am "mediocre", and it does not matter
greetings, be well

That's a really interesting idea and there may be some weight to it. I think in society- we love a success story but we love it more if the person overcame overwhelming odds- even if- in some cases- they kind of brought them on themselves.

I wonder why. I wonder if it's because we all kind of dread succumbing to something horrible in life. Maybe those people show that there's still a way out. I don't really know but I do know what you mean. Plus- we use it to berate or try to motivate ourselves I suppose- like- look at that guy/ girl- they're massively handicapped yet they still suceeded.

It's not exactly the same but it's sort of related I guess. I was thinking about celebrities and royalty who have had extramarital affairs. Obviously it's sad but kind of scandalous and the religiously minded would say- sinful. I would sometimes think- I've managed to get through life without having an affair or- breaking up a marriage. But then I'm like- that's because you haven't done anything in life!! (And don't have the looks for it either.)

Like- how impressive REALLY is it not to sin when there's no temptation around?!! These people are at parties all the time or social work events- like- it's much more likely they will form close bonds and attraction with other people. This is especially mean but if you think about nuns in a nunnery or monks in a monestry. It must be easier to avoid temptation when that temptation isn't around! Wouldn't it be a greater test of their vows to live in busy society? Not saying they should of course- I'm just saying it as an example.

Not that I particularly believe in God but I suppose I toy with the idea of judgement. So- going down the ticklist of sins- ok- so- you didn't sleep around but then- your life has been REALLY dull so- I'm afraid you're not going to get many points for that... Plus- the amount you blasphemed for frankly- the most trivial shit- looks like it's hell for you I'm afraid...

What? I didn't do any of that neither. Roughly speaking, I simply said about how you can boast about how you quit smoking or lost weight, but can't boast about not doing it in the first place. Well, you can but it's not that impressive.

Well, if you accomplish the goals you mentioned; not smoking, not self-harming, losing weight, not doing drugs etc it takes a lot of work. For somebody to get to that place, they are most likely doing bad mentally.

It's much harder to quit heroin or nicotine than it is to avoid it completely.

Everybody has their own victories. Honestly I don't even think meeting those ^^ goals gives you much credit. Some people will always view you as a junkie, or as a fat person, or as a dramatic teenager due to the lingering physical (and mental) effects. Excessive loose skin? Track marks? Loss of teeth? Self harm scars? Sure, some people might give you (well deserved) pats on the back but society won't view you like somebody who never started. They are generally considered 'better' members of society.

That's just my opinion though
