In some way this is a very tempting notion. This statement from temu is pretty well known where I live.
And its pretty distorted. I don't think billionaires actually go shopping like that. Being a billionaire is more about the lifestyle not necessarily the products you are purchasing. And temu has low quality and you might get cancer from their products. Most of the products from temu are pretty trash when we look at it rationally. It is naive to think of yourself as comparable to billionaires for purchasing cheap products from China.
Moreover, defining yourself over the products you buy is in itself shallow. You should feel hubris for buying from there. It might can distract you for time. But it is more escapism for many.
Being a billionaire has a lot to do with status. And buying from temu is not a sign of status quite the opposite. I don't care about status. Personally, from time to time I purchase from China because they don't care that much about copyright and they have a lot of merchandise that cannot be found somewhere else. But not from temu. I think it is good that poor people can feel special for a short time. But mostly it is a shallow illusion. And poor people from other countries suffer because of it. Not only the poor work conditions also the massive negative environmental impact.
