Discussion Has the suicide hotline ever called the cops on you?

No, but I have been hung up on twice.

Yes, twice in early years of my illness. Rang up lifeline (Australia) and chatted with them for a while. At that point I already failed 2 attempts.
While I was on the phone to them the police rocked up and took me to the local rural hospital for assessment.

yes one did. When I was 16 I used a children's texting line, left the chat early after saying I felt suicidal and the next morning the police turned up. My parents were furious.

Yeah, called them a few years ago when I was feeling very depressed. After I talked to them I hung up suddenly (from what I can recall), ended up just going to sleep, then was woken by the police showing up at my family home. Was an uncomfortable experience to say the least.

It would be interestingto know if there's countries in which you don't have to fear being taken by the police.
I never called a Hotline but used a anonymous German chat for people under 25 y.
I told the person that I was suicidal and she was really great and gave me advice how to talk to my general physician about my suicidal thoughts without being admitted to a psychiatric ward. And it really worked, she didn't lie to me.

Do they ask about where you live or for an address? Why is it called suicide hotline if they're gonna just call the cops?

my friend has. told her i OD'd, which i did but very mildly & recovered from. she freaked out and called the police. at my house for 2 hours, called social services & everything. i was PISSED. had to fight not to be put in the hospital. we aren't friends anymore.

@goldenrods I don't blame ya, I'd cut 'friends' out of my life (or anyone) who would dare call the police on me or try to force me to the hospital/commitment against my will. In fact, I may just CTB out of spite at that point.

oh EXACTLY how i feel. got my ENTIRE family involved. i was so, so unbelievably pissed off. this was right before christmas too.. she really tried to get me admitted to the hospital 2 days before christmas. to spend my holiday there, instead of with my family whom i love. absolute scum.

Another good reason not to tell people. Last summer, in a moment of naivety, I called a line. But as soon as they asked if I was suicidal I hung up. If I knew the cops had been sent to force me into psychiatric detention, I would definitely kill myself.
