If I listen to music about sunshine and rainbows, I stay sad. If I listen to words about depression and suicide, I somehow start feeling better.

I think it might be just relating to someone and I don't relate to the people who are happy all the time. Has anyone else noticed this?

I am close to that. The music I am listenting to has to match my mood. If I am really sad, and I hear happy music, I am offended. I know that sounds stupid but yea.

It's exactly the same for me. When I'm feeling terrible and I hear happy songs my brain interjects with things like "not everyone has that opportunity" or "lucky you" or just annoyed because it's unrealistic (for me).

Yes, listening to sad music makes me happy. I guess being connected to the sadness in the world makes me feel human.
