If I were able to get at least a week alone, I'd do partial, but as I've talked about before I'm concerned about surviving and ending up a vegetable. I have tinnitus, so being paralyzed and unable to talk and move in that situation would be torture. I have to be sure I'll die. I've tested my weight on my scarf before and it held my weight, but what would happen if it tore or the knot gave? I'm more concerned about the knot giving, because it happened 2 out of the 50 times I tried when I put my weight on it. I guess I tied it wrong. So what happens if the noose from the rope/scarf gives and you fall to the ground unconsciousness but you're not found until a day later? You've been deprived of oxygen for 5 minutes, which is enough for significant brain damage and locked in syndrome. Will you eventually die? Or will you stay alive until someone finds you 24 hours later and be taken the hospital, hooked up to feeding tubes? That's my worst fear ever. Please help. Some real life examples and scientific explanations would be great. Thank you

After u reach a certain time , it is best your pulses and heart beat stops . The longer u hang the more damage it can dealt.
Try chocking your self with hands before attempting to know what it is like and try it on another day

It depends, but there is a risk of surviving with brain damage. It's important to remain suspended until dead to be sure.

Im so done with rope sliding off my doorknob and my drawer bar bending. Im gonna hang myself off a bridge and if the rope gives Ill just fall, smash my face and drown. I mean last time I jumped I drowned without the hanging, should 10/10 work.

There are a lot of cases of failed partial hanging ended with comatose and paralysed victims. It's nightmare and I'd suggest full suspension.

It is a nightmare. It's my worst fear. The knot could still come undone with full suspension and I could still fall mid-way though, so I wonder what would happen IF someone found me on the ground like that hours later. If they'd be able to revive me at a hospital and I'd be stuck like that. This is terrible. I wish assisted suicide were legal for people with physical illnesses.

If the rope snaps shortly after hanging is commenced, most damage you can take is the fall damage. If it snaps after a prolonged period of time, you will most likely survive with a major brain damage.

Yeah, I'm afraid that's probably what would happen. You would survive with severe brain damage - very likely Locked in Syndrome, my worst fear since I have Tinnitus already. Brain damage occurs after 3-5 minutes of the brain being deprived of oxygen. So if the knot comes undone or the ligature breaks after 3-30 (I've read about a case where a woman survived even though the doctor estimated she had been hanging there for 30-40 minutes) minutes, that's enough for brain damage and LIS but not enough for death. Wow. I'm really scared.

It really depends on a ton of factors.

Me for example I was found hanging for what is estimated 2 to 3 minutes without O2 I suffered minor damages due to O2 deprivation. Every attempt changes me and brings me lower though. It will definitely damage you. You may end up brain dead, paralyzed, blood clots etc. Here Is a pretty decent article of what happened to someone. This poor soul :(

Why they revived him after 10 minutes without O2 I am not sure. Poor guy :(

I was set on hanging until I read that article a year ago. It's so disturbing. I feel so bad for him :( The most disturbing part is that he blinks twice for yes when his mom asks him if he still wants to die. What's wrong with people? I feel so awful for him :( I wish I could help him so bad. To be trapped like that for decades... To want to scream but be unable to scream. It's one of the worst possible things that could happen to someone. I'm terrified. I'm definitely going to die because I can't live like this but I don't know what method I'm going to go with. This is a risk with anything that involves oxygen deprivation to the brain: so hanging, SN, all of them. Can't get a gun. I'll probably have to jump but it would be nice to be able to die in the comfort of my own home with hanging.

I apologize if it's bad form to resurrect this thread, but I was reading through failed hanging accounts and wanted to comment on the knot tying issue here. I have two points:
  1. I assume everyone's already doing this, but if not you should be reading about which knot/hitch is best for your purpose. You should then practice tying it with the rope you intend to use. For the noose, slip knot is good. For the anchor, a figure 8 knot should work regardless of the anchor point.
  2. It may put your mind at ease to use carabiners on one or both ends instead of/in addition to knots. A carabiner can be attached to a rope using a figure 8 knot on either end. A rope through the carabiner makes a simple and failsafe noose or attachment to the anchor point.

It's dumb luck basically.

You might die and might survive.

If you use this method make sure you are certain the knot is not coming loose and that nobody is able to stop it. You don't want to end up alive but completely paralyzed. I have seen a story where it happened to someone and it's fucked up the person can only blink.
