10% of failure isn't that much if you consider people can "save" others from suicide. Even without factoring that, external factors can go wrong... A rope can break, the knot might have been tied poorly, etc. If the lethality percent of hanging was 50% or so, then I would be puzzled as well.

89.5% seems pretty good to me, considering most people who do it probably don't research as much as people on this site do and those being "rescued" are probably included in the statistic.

This is also considering that the studies cited seem to be a little older, where not everyone was as familiar with the internet as we are today.

I'm just having a hard to accepting full suspension as such a quick and peaceful method as it's described sometimes. Just blacking out ... I'm sure it can be that way, but ...
