I noticed there was a older thread about firearms but wanted to post maybe another thread for the topic. I am on my way to getting my Handgun Qualification's Licence (HQL) in Maryland in order to purchase a handgun. This process is very onerous and was wondering if anyone had ideas about how to get a gun through private sale (whether online, craigslist, etc). I also have a limited amount of money so I considered purchasing a shotgun but I think my arms are too short for that to be a good method. I know you can saw off the barrel but I still think a handgun would be best. But the cheaper handguns are ACPs, I keep hearing magnum is the way to go, but I still think a ACP should be sufficient?

What do you mean ACP? This refers to a 45ACP, which is a caliber, not a specific gun. A hi point in 45ACP should run less than $200 usually.

Yes I mean most of the cheap guns I found were 45s

I looked into your state's requirements. I'm a little mad about them but that's beside the point. :pfff:

You have a few options. You could buy from a trusted friend or family member who doesn't suspect what you plan to use it for, but THEN you run the risk of them having survivor's guilt if you successfully ctb with the gun you bought from them. If you're fine with that, that's the route you'll want to go if you want to do this quickly.

If you're feeling particularly frisky, you can go to another state, make a purchase, then pray you don't get stopped by law enforcement on your way back across state lines. I do NOT recommend that method because you could get tied up with federal gun charges.

My recommendation, though, is to wait. It looks like you've gotta get your fingerprints done and then show up to a class or two. It's legal, less risky, and will keep your family and friends from feeling guilty.

Thank you for the reply lonelyhouse. Another inquiry I had was what exactly was the consensus on where to point the gun when shooting? I see conflicting arguments where you point under the chin slightly tilted, I am also seeing shooting in the mouth as it takes out the brain stem.
I am also seeing that many people on this forum prefer drugs over guns to kill themselves with, is there a particular reason for that? Not judging, just curious if I should change my method lol.

Whatever method you choose, do not put the gun under your chin.

Exactly, you want to aim for the brain stem, the body can generally keep living as long as the brain stem is up and running (though you may be a vegetable...)

I agree with @lonelyhouse that doing things legally minimizes your chance of legal problems and should make things a bit easier.

Also, yes @Aap is right about where not to aim. I would suggest through the mouth, at a slight upwards angle (15-30 degrees) should ensure your chance of success.

I have been reading a lot of threads on methods, and I am wondering why a lot of people choose drug based suicides instead of guns? Again I am not judging but I wondering if I should change the method?

I think it's that a lot of people take being found into account and probably don't want to stress people even more by making them look at their spilled brains. While it's quick, it is in no way a peaceful method.
I wish I could go by gun, but it's close to impossible in my country, especially in my situation. Sigh.

I can not be sure but I suspect it might be due to the restrictions/difficulties around owning/sourcing a gun in a lot of countries.

edit: also maybe because using a gun feels too violent &/or messy for some people.

.45 ACP is a good choice. Heavy bullet with a lot of power behind it. I wish I had one myself, as all I have right now is a high powered rifle, which is literally going to explode my head. Very messy. And it's a very long rifle, going to be hard to pull off. I really should look into buying a .45.

I've got a 9mm that I did some target practicing with a few weeks ago. I was surprised by its power. It definitely packs a bigger punch than my .38 does, so I'm pretty sure the 9mm will be my selection.

Why would you prefer 9mm over 45acp?
