death: the cure for life

I was a big fan of Google back in the days. I was fairly naive tho, regarding privacy at least. I remember watching Youtube videos countless hours back in the days. I loved to have access to so many documentaries and quality content in general. After the official announcement of google having bought the video platform, things have become progressively worse. It was a slow process tho. Remember, this is just my personal opinion and the opinion of others will differ, but i have seen many posts on the internet of people complaining about the same issues. The Algorithm which decides on what people get to see on their yt home screens shows now mostly trending trash with high views, instead of 100% content which the user might be genuinely interested in. On top, most of the trending stuff which yt tries to push has no real content, just some clickbait. It seems like YouTube tries everything to get their users to watch more ads and nonsense content to generate more profit. I'm not interested to see what what most youtubers bought for 1.000.000 Dollars or what they bought from mcDonnalds, or <insert other brand>.. Google's search results also have changed, they no longer are detailed or give precise results.

There are quite a few people who think the same. On the official Google support
page, where people can post their issues, google tries to shut those people up by
deleting posts or locking the entire thread.

It's just a nonsense vent but It makes me sad to see my (once) favorite sites getting worse and worse
just for the sake of more revenue. Would love to get Your
thoughts on this. Do You also feel like they have changed or am i just to critical/picky?

Youtube was definitely better when it was non-profit.

YouTube has ads that sometimes are longer than other times. So am ad takes five seconds to be skippable (sometimes) but I've noticed sometimes its slower and that same ad that took a small amount of time to slip has added an extra second or two due to it "lagging" also, youtubes monetization shit is total bs. It fucks over so many youtubers (I'm talking the ones who are educational, EVEN the fun ones who do games, but for this is the educational ones) because a lot of topics are now "taboo" and "are against the guidelines" so these educational youtubers talking about mental health can't make money (which some of them it's their job) so it really fucks people over and I hate it.

I never noticed any difference with the Google search engine per se, but Youtube has indeed become awful.

I haven't used go/ ogle for years so I can't comment but the privacy issue is horrible and why I changed for another.
I'm not sure about yt as I can't make any informed decision. To sleepy to use it let alone see what BS has happened since the buyout.

I saw users posts when I used it at the changing point and they were pissed off too, saying they were quitting yt as a result. Nobody was under any illusions that they would care about all this though. Google
Too big and mighty to care.
Why should they when they can spy on people with gadgets like Alexa and things like Siri (when people leave it turned on).
Google is creepy, and in my view has been for years.

YouTube has been okay for me but that's because I use it almost exclusively on my phone, which is what they spend most of their resources on now because it's how they get most of their traffic.

As for Google, employees there have to do something to justify their high salaries so they constantly give themselves projects to tweak and "improve" even things that were perfectly fine and don't need to be improved. Apple and Facebook are in similar boats.

I bought a lot of music through Google, trying to be a good human and not pirate.

They've now closed it down and forced everyone to transfer to Youtube music.

On YT music you can't listen to music with screen locked and also get adverts, unless you pay a monthly subscription.

I now have to pay a monthly fee to listen to music I already bought. Fuck google, and fuck buying any media again.

Youtube has been trash for years. I barely use it anymore when I used to be on it all the time because I literally can no longer find video that are of interest to me anymore, recommendations have completely turned to shit on an account I've been on for years and on a newer channel it literally just recommends me the same videos I've already watched and just shows the same boring people over and over again. I hate what it's become, filled with vapid shallow wannabe "celebs" that all talk the same "what's up guys!" and only want to make money off you from Patreon/joining their channel/whatever.

Google search has become trash too. I used to be able to search for the most obscure things and get a correct result, that's not so anymore.

Google in general is evil. They really had the wool over our eyes for a while though.

Have you tried loading the music into an old phone? I have an old iPhone 4 with music on it. An iPod has a music player and would be just as good too.

Search pawn shops for an old one. I'm a keepsakes type so the 4 has been my old faithful music wise since it was bought in 2016. The new phones don't have a headphones jack (stupid idea) so I'm sticking with the '4.
My oldest iPhone is a 3, and next is a 3GS. Besides the 4 there's also the 5s, the 8+ and the X. I hate technology. :))

Search engines becoming so stupid that you have to dork-hack your way to basic results.

This isn't an opinion in that it's a determinable thing but the amount of information available has probably increased significantly. The ways in which we search for it are having to change and become more advanced which requires additional knowledge of advanced search operators and their combinations.

As for youtube I think the content and culture sucks. Click bait, information that should be quickly transmitted has a lengthy branded introduction. Everybody trying to be somebody and just looking cringe af.

Emulation, Thorpe and Richards, 1974. That's how it goes. What works as a desirable alternative gets subsumed by the masses and becomes a vehicle of control. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
