In no particular order, the more 'serious' ones:

The Exorcist (1973)
The Thing (1981)
Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
In the Mouth of Madness
They Live
Halloween
Definitely almost all Stephen King movies. (Christine, Cujo, It, Carrie, Pet Cemetery. Go for the oldies not the new stuff.)
The Evil Dead series.
Friday the 13th
Hellraiser (The first few are good. Not so much the rest of the series, imo.)
Scanners
Reanimator
The Fly
Suspiria (1997)
Ginger Snaps (It has a bit of good comedy, but I would consider it mostly serious. Best werewolf movie Ive seen so far.)
The Descent (The sequel kinda sucks.)

Campy. Movies fun to watch, just as good in their own way:

Dead Alive
Chopping Mall
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (Beloved classic of "so bad its good" movies.)
The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Frankenhooker
Night of the Creeps
Zombeavers
Critters

As for the Silent Hill movie, it's mid in my opinion. You are better off watching a youtube video of the cutscenes and gameplay. If you do, watch Silent Hill 1~ The Room. I don't recommend anything beyond that.

Jacobs Ladder (1990)

(I'm pretty sure that it can be categorized a psychological horror, I'm not entirely sure)

What kinda horror movies are you into? Here are a few recommendations..

Bloody & gory
*hostel series
*my bloody valentine
*jennifers body

Not really scary "horror movies":
*the visit
*don't breathe

Possession:
*this is RLY not the type of the horror I watch, but I'll try
*blair witch (classic)
*annabelle

Controversial horror:
*American Mary (my all time favorite)
*cannibal holocaust (research before watching…)
*May
*I spit on your grave series
*Mother (with the girl from hunger games)

Classics:
*The hills have eyes
*children of the corn (there are like ten movies in total)
*devils rejects

Creatures:
*let the right one in
*Abigail (just came out. So good)
*28 weeks later

Also s/o to midsommar & heredity

I love (almost) anything blumhouse does.
*split
*get out
*purge series
*cam
*unfriended

I also love shark attack horror..
*47 meters down
*the shallows
*the meg

Feel free to PM with your specific tastes for better recommendations. I've seen A LOT. I tend to go for the more "fucked up" horror.

NOPE is really good!

Kept me up at night, it will make you feel uneasy. I usually watch horror and pick out all the weird, cringy, or even just plot holes but that one? Oh man, it felt like a pit in my stomach for at least a couple days.

Movie spoiler below for those who want a bit of info:
The story follows a pair of siblings and their father who own a horse farm and rent out for films. The father mysteriously gets impaled from something out of the sky, and the siblings struggle without him and have to sell the horses. Anyways they eventually realize the thing that killed their dad was a flying saucer and they try to get it on film for money and..well..regret it.

What really stuck with me is a certain scene with a chimpanzee. Holy fuck watch it if just to know what I'm talking about. It's so fucked up.

I enjoyed these psychological horror films quite a lot. Both have a well written storyline IMO. But these came out recently so chances are you have seen them already.

- Barbarian (2022)
- The Invisible Man (2020)
