• Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

i know that, reasonably, i can't ctb until i get my affairs in order.

that is, prepare my will, pack my stuff into boxes so it's easier to move, clean up, etc.

sure, i could not do these things, but i don't much like the idea of dumping a bunch of admin work on family (on top of the grief, obviously).

i'd very much like my demise to be careful, calculated, clean.

is this a consideration for others? what's your approach to this?

Your plans seem very considerate. It shows that you care. It makes sense to want to get everything in order and tidied. Feels like a neat and thought-out way to go, my friend.

I would hope to do something similar when my time comes.

Yes, I don't have family or friends nearby and I don't want them burdened with it all. Neither do I have the energy to tidy my home though. I'll likely do a bare minimum but, I've organised a house clearance service with my Solicitor. So, at least they'll be paid to deal with it all! The Solicitor will act as Executor of the Will. I also want to pre-pay for a direct cremation. Make sure my phone is paid off, tax return crap is up to date.

I'll try to impress upon my Solicitor that I want them to deal with as much of the admin aftermath crap as possible and to take their fee out of the total as necessary. Ideally, my remaining loved ones will have nothing to do but wait for whatever measly inheritance is left.

Does a will have to be through a solicitor or can I just write what I want on a piece of paper? I've not got much to my name but I don't want some of my stuff going to waste. What happens if there no will?

Any amount of packing, cleaning, general housework will be greatly appreciated by those left behind. After my partner committed suicide his family had to go to the flat to pack all of his things. I can only imagine the pain. I had to send some of my family members to the flat because I couldn't bear to go there myself and some of his stuff got mixed in with mine. Seeing it was awful.

The landlord made his parents clean the flat, too. Honestly will never forgive him for that. They're elderly and were clearly in an awful position, so to make them clean is beyond inhumane.

So yeah, anything that will make that part of the process easier is always a good idea.

It kind of depends on your relatives in a way. Whether you trust them to honour your wishes. I've seen will guides in shops and I'm sure you can find guides online. Charities will make up wills but obviously, they'll likely appreciate a cut. If it's mainly belongings though and if your loved ones are kind, I imagine they would follow your wishes.

Even with a legal will, I've sadly seen squabling in my own family. Really sad. Like vultures clawing at a carcass. In theory, a legal will ought to cut down on the squabling. Especially if the Solicitor acts as the Executor. Plus hopefully, it relieves them some of the hassle.

With no will, I imagine everything will go to the next of kin but it likely depends on local laws. I've even seen articles in newspapers searching for lost relatives when people die intestate (with no legal will.) Not sure what happens if no one comes forward. I wonder if our greedy governments snatch the money.

No will will depend on where you live. i plan on getting everything in order before going. It also kind of puts the brakes on because i have a lot to put in order and it just looks too tiring. Doing so defintely makes the survivors life one bit easier.

Same here, I can't imagine leaving people with chores to do on my behalf

Thank you for this insight. I used to always attempt to ctb impulsively and never planned out what's going to happen with my stuff and all that but now I'm thinking about it all a lot more in depth.
