I don't have a Facebook or Twitter account, but a friend of mine has a Facebook account and has had it since 2010. He is a working artist and it helped him feel a sense of connection for a while. Lately, he's been saying he tries to stay off of the thing because of all the 'political bickering' going on. I suggested he just use it to promote his work. He's considering that.
I have a theory that eventually the internet will be broken up and end up similar to TV.
You'll have your free content and then have to pay on a scale to access more.
Or maybe not ...

I love speculating about the future of technology. @Johnnythefox, I wonder who is out there in the 'ether' conspiring right this minute on how to 'capitalize' on this idea. Probably some computer science major at Harvard (chuckle).

I didn't use Internet when it was just FTP. I did get Internet back in the early 2000s/late 90s. I do agree that was the golden age of the Internet, around the early to mid 2000s. Now the internet is just a bunch of political stuff and people being the biggest assholes around. I think smart phones is what really made the Internet into the shit show it is today. I think the internet would be much different had you still only been able to really use the internet with just a desktop or laptop. I wonder what would happen if Internet was disabled on smart phones?
