Discussing-well the rationality of suicide, of particular interest if you dont consider yourself to have a mental illness as such:

I love this quote: "I've crunched the numbers, and correct me if I'm wrong, but how is killing myself not an intelligent decision given these variables?"

I appreciate the fact that it acknowledges that is can be a decision made with clarity of mind its not always impulsive, not always illogical, not always made in a temporay moment of despair. Rather you can put all you 'life cards' on the table & it doesnt tally with what you had hoped and wanted for youself.

In this world, extreme rationalilty is always described by insanity.
And insanity's meaning differs from people to people and from context to context.

In the end people use insanity to something they can't comprehend and don't want to.

For example, atheist, homosexual, scientist, doctors, women, elderly, people harboring another culture were allways called insane and history will bring you a plethora of other examples.

I've been told same, what they fail to understand is that it is exactly because of that- well part of the reason atleast - that I have concluded I want to ctb. It's a v.stupid thing to say- though I guess maybe the people that say it mean well I'm their own way (your people I mean - not mine- mine just selfishly don't want to have to deal with the fallout)

Yeah. I might get someone say to me' well welcome to my world' when I express my distaste for a situation or scenario. I express it verbally rather like most people I would assume, but inside it's on a whole other level. Screaming inside. It's so frustrating and impossible communicating with people who just don't understand...

Good article, thanks for sharing. My thoughts on it are that yes, while it does mention that suicidal people should be able to talk about the topic of suicide without fear of repercussions and being locked up or treated like a problem/persecuted, it never talks about abolishing involuntary force. I'm very much against involuntary hospitalization except for some of the most extreme cases like "actual" threat to others and also someone who is too young and unable to comprehend the concept of death or under the influence of a drug/alcohol. I don't think someone who knows what death is, has carefully and thoroughly considered suicide, carefully planned it out (along with the method, time, date, location), should be forcibly stopped against their will. They know that they want suicide and they willing chose it so society, government, and people in general should just respect that person's decision.

I do find it rather ironic that someone who considers and wishes to suicide is considered irrational, possibly mentally ill, or incapable of making his/her own decision, yet when someone who willfully goes out to commit a crime, actually hurt others, do illegal acts, etc. would be considered competent to stand trial and be sentenced accordingly. It's almost like they decide that suicide = mentally ill and irrational, but homicide/murder (other illegal acts) = guilty as charged and competent to stand trial. Such inconsistency the society has when it comes to death, but I digress.

An excellent and well written article. Threatening to lock up suicidals in a ward achieves absolutely fucking nothing. The mental health system has failed us, which is exactly why websites such as SS exist - so that we could talk freely about our suicidal thoughts. I'd like to think we're achieving much more than the obsolete mainstream mental health system.

"There's always a way out of a bad situation" is false optimism and nauseatingly naive. Of course you wouldn't want to be the one that encourages people to CTB - that could be misconstrued as assisted suicide.

Why is it so hard to accept that sometimes, life is just too hard to bear and we just want to end it all? People that say such flowery and positive words can only say them because they're in a way better position. They can't truly empathize with our pain. Suicide CAN be rational. Society as a whole needs to change their fucking perspective on suicide, and allow suicidals to openly express their feelings and why they wanna do it, as opposed to stigmatizing all of us.

Towards the end he talks about embracing the absurdity of life. I can't do that anymore.

I think if you hang on to life and see it as worth living you see an order to it all, one with future. One that makes all the suffering worth it.

Life is too absurd IMO.
