I think I'll take a dirt nap.

This has been on my mind lately, but how am I going to keep any fast at all without ingesting much but water?

If my blood sugars go low.. No, WHEN they go low, I'll have to eat or drink something full of sugar.

This is stressing me out now. I don't know what I should do, plus I want a painless death, so I'm not going to let my sugars skyrocket, either.

Any ideas? x

From what I understand the problem lies more with eating. Not that liquids can't effect the process, but they are less of an effect. Just have to figure out what liquids would be enough to keep things in check - syrups that are lower in volume per sugar gram etc.

Thank you. This really helps a lot! xx

Maybe have sugar water? Natural sugars are healthier than refined sugars. Maybe having honey or maple syrup would be okay, it's not like you'll be digesting much

What others have said about syrups and liquids is probably the most practical advice. If your very concerned with having a completely empty gut you can also use sugar sublingually(under the tongue) it's proven to be an effective first aid intervention for hypoglycemia and could be used to stabilize blood sugar without effecting the gut. The other thing that may help is doing smaller fasts working up to a longer fast by starting at 2 hours, then up to 4 and ending with the desired 8(Or starting at whatever gap between eating you can usually go). Might help you adapt a little or get comfortable with when you would need to supplement with sugar.

Do you eat during the night? You wake up in a fasted state.

I've read a few old books on fasting, but can't recall any cautions against fasting if diabetic.

yeah your sugar level drops in 8 hours, but not that drastically. I reckon you can have a sugar cube or a spoon full of honey and it will not affect the SN absorption

Thank you all for your advice! I will most likely be using small spoonfuls of raw sugar under the tongue when hypoglycemia shows itself. xx

I would say give yourself less than your usual dose of basal insulin. You may run a little higher than normal, but no big deal, especially if the bus is your final journey...

If I'm low on sugar I take 1 coffeespoon of honey + 1 coffeespoon of virgin coconut oil.
Honey has a lower GI than sugar and vco slows down digesting, although it's saturated fat it's metabolised differently than other fats 'cos of MCT oils which are directly converted to energy in your liver.

Thank you! I always have VCO around, anyway, so that is incredibly helpful. xo

This makes sense. Just the fact that having higher glucose is so uncomfortable, but I'll make sure they stay between 10-15 I think. Semi high, but not concerning high.

Enough to keep me alive so that I make myself not alive. :P
