I know children and animals can die easily falling asleep in hot cars.

Was wondering what the chances/possible side effects (if survived) would be if an adult did it.

(I'm 62kg, in my early 20s and live in Australia. Our summer is coming up and we can reach temperatures of up to 45C.)

Children and pets die as they couldn't open the window or door. Unless you are in a similar position and in the absence of other hidden illnesses, your chances of dying are next to zero.

I mean if you knock yourself out somehow. But, chabces of being found unresponsive on a hot day are high.

Eww sweaty.
But like cody said, if you knocked yourself out, then it may be possible, but your basically cooking yourself to death, even if you are knocked out I wonder about the suffering.

You would have to be pretty far gone not to open the door or turn on the ac.
In saying that. With the heat you get where you are ausboy. It would only take an hour or two at the hight of the day.

On further reflection, this may not be all to bad. Now I'm not aware of the medical side to this method, as in how long etc,
But imagine pulling up to a beautiful spot, you got your favourite music, nice and cool with the AC on. Nice pleasent time, you can reflect, send your last message, rub one out if you desire. Then when your ready, take whatever it is to knock you out. Then just before you drift off, turn the engine off, and that should be it...
Purely speculation of course, again, the heat might be so intense you'll wake up anyway, who knows...

I think this issue is, most beaches will be frequented on hot days. And australians are nosey. Chances of someone walking past and looking in your car and seeing you there are pretty high.
As for a way of ctb. Im sire it wil work under right circumstances, just not sure the risks involved and the chances of damage you can do to yourself if you are found.

Ahh yes, I didn't think about long term damage, and of course there will be a big window and opportunity to be found. How about somewhere really rural? I'm guessing it gets just as hot there?

There is. And if its something your willing to do then you would be willing to drive that distance. But a car alone on a beach in middle of nowhere has a higher chance of someone walking up to it.
Atleast from the amount of cars ive seen in secluded places with smashed windows or sitting on bricks.
Looks more suspicious if your the only one there.

You got some very good points there my dude. I guess if you could find somewhere safe, I mean, in theory, you could do it on your drive, if say your behind a gate and hidden?

Can't do it in my driveway. People would see. I'd need a VERY secluded area to go to where nobody will find me. But to be honest, I'm not sure it will even work. I'd need to know more about the science behind it before attempting.

Fair enough, hope youve got a bit more of an insight from this though. What ever you do, I hope you it works out for you.

You would definatly need something to knock you out or your more than likely going to open the door because youll feel like your burning from the inside, nit very comfortable at all id imagine. Childrens bodies compensate and then drop off very quick thats why we on the ambulance take children in mostly because the decline is so rapid, adults arbt like that so you will be sat there for hours suffering.

Not a bad idea but would be near impossible to resist temptation to open window.

I think in places like Australia there are more ways to make it look accidental.

Getting stuck in a riptide for example.

This seems like a painful way to die. you're essentially creating an environment where you die of heat exhaustion? You're survival instincts will kick in and you'll open the door when things become too uncomfortable. The reason why animals and kids die is because they can't open the door

Yeah pretty much what others said here. You have a high chance of being saved by others and while I'm not from Australia, but from the US, there are some really hot areas in the desert, but you'd have to drive far, far away in order to not be found or rescued and then of course, lack of water and dehydration. As far as the pain is concerned, I'm not sure if hyperthermia (opposite of hypothermia) is really painful (some say it is while others say it isn't) so it's good to do a bit of research there.

If it's possible to go to a secluded area, like in the middle of nowhere, not a touristy part, then your chances of being found are much lower. Personally, I'd still go for jumping to ctb since it's more or less instant and not a drawn out death where time is your enemy.

Hmm.. you could... close yourself in the boot. Cars jn australia dont have a pull string release on the inside.
But if your not passed out it would be really frickn horrible way of going.

Uh there is nothing easy about dying in a hot car. They did because they can't get out. I remember this one case were a 3 year old was purposely left in a car to die. Authorities found scratch marks all over his face. Probably because he was panicking.

If you survived you risk brain damage and could have other irreversible health complications.

I'm hoping to do charcoal method in a car here down under in Melbourne. I'm just awaiting to hear from my post in the partner megathread. Bound to be somebody local who's keen, wink.

Otherwise it'll just be a miserable life ongoing sigh

I don't even like being outside when it's really hot out … I can't imagine being in a hot car trying to end it.
Evening just opening the car door on a hot day to go somewhere … uggh .
