Hi everyone,

I'm curious what was your experience like with buying gas cylinders for the eb method? I'm trying to obtain N2

There are several local suppliers I can go to, but I am nervous to go in and ask to buy for fear that they might ask me questions about how I am transporting the cylinder, or worse yet carry the gas out for me and/or inspect my vehicle to see if I have a safe method of transportation.
My cover story for why I'm purchasing if they ask is that my brother is interested in brewing nitro coffee/beer and asked me to pick up the cylinder for him. But being paranoid I worry that they might ask further questions that I can't answer 😅

I tried to order a gas cylinder for delivery a few months ago but it was cancelled and after some time and investigation they said they couldn't actually deliver to my area and instead suggested 2 suppliers closer to my address. I've contacted one and they said they've had some supply issues recently and can't guarantee when they'll get the cylinders in.

Am I overthinking this? With limited options I don't want to mess it up.

👍 got it. For anyone who may come across this and worried about the same thing I thought I would summarise my experience:

I'm a very anxious person normally. Going into an industrial area and asking for equipment I have no idea about is nerve-wracking enough, but I was worried they would ask me about transportation, since the original gas company I approached said that they transport gas tanks in an open-air setup. I had emailed the company to check the stock before going in, luckily the lady who helped me was very friendly and did not ask many questions. Just in the email she asked if it was for beer and I said brewing, yes.

When I got there I had hoped it was her I would deal with and not some surly asshole, and luckily it was. She asked me to re-park my car at the back of the store. She did come up to my car and put the tank into the boot of my car (I didn't ask she just did it), there were male staff around who witnessed this, one offered to help her as it was heavy but otherwise didn't say anything (about safety in transporting it home). She asked if it was the right gas, I noticed it had the correct code on the bottle so I said yes, and some questions about billing because they are a partner of the gas supplier I had originally approached, so the supplier is the one who will send me the invoice. I had no idea about any of this but didn't let on, I just said happy to pay however is the easiest. The tank isn't as tall as I thought it would be (I got 1.8m3), I had set up an area in the boot of my car padded with a sleeping bag to stop the thing from rolling around. I prayed they would be ok with it!!

And yeah, I drove off and couldn't quite believe it. Final advice is if they pry say you're helping someone else/it's mainly their project you've just been asked to pick it up. Side note I noticed online from the same supplier that they also have a 'beer gas', with nitrogen + co2 so that was good because they may have asked if I wanted that one and I was going to say no, definitely need the pure stuff. But honestly I was just praying the whole time there wouldn't be questions because I hate lying!!

I was expecting something worse but it seems you are good to go starlightsun :)
Haha thanks, honestly so was I. I got it from a farming supply store rather than the gas company themselves so could have been a different story!

There are many sources available in my country thankfully.

I can even order it online. No questions asked.

That's really good. I tried online but I must have been outside their delivery zone.

Nah, New Zealand. It was a farm supply store which is one of the partners of the gas company I tried originally.
