Would it be possible to die from exhaust fumes in a car if you partially blocked the exhaust and put the aircon on outside?

Only if the car was really old and not have a catalytic converter. So you are really talking classic car here

It would require a car from pre catalytic converters era. Otherwise the CO levels would not reach a sufficient level and one would just make themselves very sick.

Thank you, that rules that one out then. There have just been a few reports recently about people taking there lives in there cars and I'm unsure how they have done it.

A mechanic on this forum once posted there is a way to bypass the catalytic converter, but you'll have to know how to fiddle around with some of the parts under the car. You can try searching for the thread, it was from less than 2 months ago

An option would be using a portable generator. Either running in an enclosed space or piping the exhaust somewhere.
Generators are now starting to be equiped with catalytic converters. Buy or rent one without it. Buy a used one.
