it's not really any of their business but if necessary i would say it's for DIY baskets that you are planning on making to store flowers that hang up or something innocent like that.

I saw somebody on this forum reccomend to buy a swing, if the store you're buying the rope from sells them, or better yet buy a tire so it looks like you're setting up a tire swing.

I had to ask for rope as it was behind the counter I said whats the strongest you rope you have. As its to tie up my horses it worked all the same and that was out of my town. As some would know I dont own horses lol

When I went to Lowe's, they had to cut the length for me from a large spool. I don't remember if they asked what it was for (it was a few years ago), but I told them it was for a tire swing. They didn't ask any follow-up questions or hassle me in any way.

Truth is nobody really cares. They're unlikely to ask, and even less likely to pay attention to the answer if they do. It's just smalltalk.

Actually this is not their business, but i would say something like "father asked me to buy it cause he is [doing something]". You can search in the internet and find dozens methods of usage. I'd also add some other innocent stuff to my shopping basket, just to distract them from the rope and make them believe I'm here for some other stuff, the rope itself is just a small addition. But the most important thing is your behavior : everything should be fine if you're not looking suspicious.

Finally feel mentally prepared to buy this rope! I'm on meds that have helped with my panic attacks, so I can go in without seeming "off".

I had gotten out of a toxic relationship, and for the first few months, I was paranoid that everyone was out to hurt me, so I'm glad I waited to get this rope when I'm calm, collected, and can follow through with it logically instead of emotionally.

Lol to each their own! If I said that, I'd probably get a really confused look, considering my appearance is like a caucasian, Christian house wife. (Though I'm an in the closet atheist)

I wish. :/ I've been afraid to joke about anything since I was in 4th grade. I grew up in Los Angeles for 25 years, and if you joke about anything there, it is "triggering" or "insensitive" or "politically incorrect" or at worst, "a reason to sue". That's probably one of the reasons I'm depressed. I was taught by society to never laugh or joke. So I don't.

It is. Fortunately, I can safely laugh with family, so I still have some relief, but otherwise, I speak the most minimally I can with strangers to feel safe.

Rope is used for tons of stuff! Kids playground stuff, tie up junk you store in your garage, tie boxes together, luggage, lots of creative uses. I bought some to make a forearm exercise equipment along with a 2 foot hollow tube and had them drill a hole through the middle. So people buy hardware stuff for all kinds of reasons you could never imagine possible. They have a TON of rope types at the hardware store. Meaning people buy it for all kinds of reasons. Its only because we know what its for that we think everyone will too but they don't and probably don't care. Prepare an answer if it makes you feel less anxious about it.

I just told them my dad is a sailor and ties his boats to shore with it. Or that hes a builder and uses it at work to tie stuff. Parents kept taking away my ropes and I needed to come up with excuses cause I was buying them so often it was suspicious lol. At least the cashiers looked at me kinda suspiciously idk. I wish I could get a credit card and order SN on the internet instead of going through all this hassle
