I don't know how people do this shit for decades. I want the ancient model where people die at around 40. Why would I want to live past middle age? So I can watch my body deteriorate and my appearance alter to that of a wrinkled out husk with failing cognition? This is progress? LOL

There can be a misunderstanding about people dying at 30-40 historically. This is regarded as a mean average, so a large number would have died in childhood, while many others might have reached 70 or so.

Modern electronics have not been in the 200,000-year-old history of humanity until just the past couple of decades. In this context, I'm more inclined to be critical of the purposefully harmful effects of social media, etc. on the human brain, than I am life itself.

I think I would've killed myself in the pre-electronic age if I had the same issues I do now. I would be unmarried due to being unstable. I wouldn't be able to work so I'd probably lose jobs regularly, have to live with family or on the street.

It's hard to say. Women used to marry all sorts of eccentric men because the social norms of the time shamed people for being single or divorced. If a man was unable to work at all, that could definitely be a problem.

But without having our minds assaulted by internet 'brain-hacking' algorithms, it is possible that our daily experience would be vastly different. In my childhood, these devices don't exist. (Of course, there was a bad side to lacking information, convenient shopping, connections to others, etc.)

When I was a kid, there was tv (which I devoted my life to). N64 games gave me severe headaches, so I didn't really like video games. I read rarely.

Now that you mention it, even excessive TV consumption was a controversial topic back in the day. The concerned elders couldn't have imagined the extremes of targeted manipulation and AI trickery that would await the next generation of youths.

Tv gave me a reason to live! So many great shows in the 90s and 00s. Now tv sucks and I've already rewatched a lot of what I loved years ago.

You know life is over if you're having to redo things to continue on lol

I had a long list in the '90s. The Simpsons, the X Files, Hercules/Xena, various sitcoms like Friends, Mad About You, etc. The list goes on. In later years, I had no TV at all. Now I have a TV that is only ever used for guests.

The simpsons bores me when I try and binge it. Seinfeld was fun though.

I agree with all that @Pluto said.

I also think it depends. I quit social media over two months ago and honestly I don't miss it at all. It was being toxic for me.

We tend to compare ourselves to others and to others' lifestyles due to the fact that social media doesn't portray reality. I really think that social media have done more harm than good to society. Humanity has got its priorities mixed up, they've lost values...

Now if we talk about television, I've a different opinion. It's something that always distracts me, if only a little. Even when I was at the peak of my depression.

In short, I really feel that I don't belong to this generation and wish I had been born a few years ago.

I feel like even with all the technology that exists, life is still very slow and boring. Nothing could ever make me think otherwise. All that people do is try to distract themselves until they die. To me, it all seems so pointless. Life does not interest me at all and the thought of suffering for decades is absolutely horrifying. The life expectancy is far too long.

Yeah I can't really go without my laptop because the hours of the day are insufferably long otherwise. On the one hand I feel disappointed in myself that I am purposely wasting my years, on the other I acknowledge that I don't have many other viable options and that I just want to get to old age and die already.

Last year I took a 1 week break when I visited my grandmother and as they were moving out of the house there was no internet and that was horrible torture luckily I took some books and had my cell phone to listen to music, not watch anime and entering this forum is also torture, but there is a difference between a person who only stays locked in his room and a person who lives in a good neighborhood or has social skills, I would love to go to an amusement park if someone called me but me I have nobody

I feel this so much. I think they got worse when streaming came out and they churned out mindless stuff without thinking them through or letting them develop. I used to love shows like Lost and Breaking Bad. I didn't kill myself at time because I wanted to find out what happened on them.
I'm actually fine with no internet. I live in my head 90% of the time.

Like with anything else, human brains and bodies adjust to their circumstances, more or less, If you are used to a barrage of stimulation and quick dopamine hits all day from electronics then life without them will be boring.

Sorta the way if you are used to throwing 4 spoonfuls of sugar into your drink then drinking water feels gross. Lower your sugar gradually and you can drink water again without much trouble.
