It's time for Nembutal to be made legal for all adults who are suffering intolerantly, regardless of the cause of their suffering. Adults who have been given enough responsibility to drive 2-ton cars, purchase firearms, or raise children, should also be fully capable and be given enough responsibility to decide for themselves if they are suffering intolerantly, from any health condition whatsoever.
There should obviously be a waiting or cooling off period, to prevent impulsive and short-term pain from being the reason. There should also be safeguards to prevent vulnerable people from being coerced into the decision, but these should be the only restrictions.
The current policy of forcing people to resort to these dangerous, painful, and horrific suicide methods needs to stop now.
We are not Neanderthals living in primitive conditions. We're an extremely advanced species in every way except for this one.
$40 worth of Nembutal is all that it takes to prevent a human being who is suffering chronically, from having to either continue suffering for years or likely decades, or resort to a dangerous and brutal method of suicide.
It's time for all human beings to take a stand against this cruel and ridiculously tragic situation. There are hundreds of millions of people in this situation at all times, including the 40,000 members in this forum.
If even a small fraction of the people on Earth who are suffering chronically were to take a stand and speak up, there is no way that it would continue.
When the vast majority of people who are currently healthy and happy realize that only 10 to 15% of us are going to drop dead instantly of natural causes, it's not going to be very difficult to muster enough support for these changes in policy to occur.
85 to 90% of all humans are going to end up suffering chronically at some point in their lives. This is obviously not a good thing, but this knowledge IS extremely beneficial and politically powerful when it comes to building support for humane, safe, and peaceful methods of ending forced chronic suffering.
What makes the situation far worse for many people, is the psychological stress and anxiety of feeling trapped in their pain. In many cases just the knowledge that there is a safe and humane way to escape their suffering if necessary, would actually prevent many from choosing this. The result would actually be a REDUCTION in the total number of people who would choose assisted or unassisted suicide.
