I don't know. From just about every account I have read, drowning is a difficult way to go, even if successful. Oftentimes, just from reading the posts on SS, you will discover that it is unsuccessful. The SI cannot be under estimated. Actually, there is a very recent post from a member, early this morning AM I think. He tried and was unsuccessful. Look for a thread started by DrownFeather.

This is a paper on accidental drowning, not intentional. You need to consider that the ability to swim is not as prevalent in the rest of the world as it is in the west. Privilege, money, education and all that. For example, an incredibly small percentage of people in India can swim and thus, drownings are more common.
If you can't swim, your success rate by drowning is going to increase significantly

Drowning can be successful but very painful. I wouldn't do it unless someone ties me up and attaches heavy weights to my legs so i can't survive

I'm curious what folks think of this. I know that drowning has a low success rate but otherwise I'm a bit puzzled by the way I've seen people here talk about it, especially after I read this. Is it a poor source? Bad research methods?

I'm sure the data is correct, or at least close, but keep in mind that the short sequence of events leading to death happens after "swim failure", which can take hours. A traditional way of intentional drowning is to head out into the ocean and just swim forever. The only way it can fail is if you change your mind and turn around, or someone in a boat pulls you out.

Isn't SI a factor in every method? Thats the problem we deal with constantly...even if its taking drugs, sure it might not be that painful, but the panic thay would set after ingestion till unconsciousness.

How about handcuffing yourself for people who can swim? Geo Stone reports unconciousness is very quick 2-3 mins but yes, extremely painful.

I don't know how to swim. I've been strongly considering drowning for a long time. Even Final Exit suggests that death comes quick. I'm just mad that it's hard to find a place to drown and that it does scare me. I've always been afraid of large bodies of water but perhaps that's because that's the way I'm suppose to die.šŸ¤·šŸæ
