i have no interest in continuing my education. my family keeps telling me to get through this semester and then take a gap year but i'm not interested anymore. my therapist and doctor tell me every time that i just need to work on it in therapy but the amount of time that would take for it to work would be pointless. i'm on the verge of failing my classes with the grades i have from when i was putting in effort and i have no given up and no longer doing my work. by the time they enter those missing assignments i will be failing every class. i'll just start working full time

Relief

Oh my god literally me too. Literally exactly the same situation. I've just given up. I haven't told any of them yet besides the fact I'd had thoughts, but I've done like 3 assignments since September, and I'm sure there's been 10s on 10s. The thing is there's no motivation or concentration and yet when there is, I end up going to do something that I vaguely care for. I've literally given up on the year and it's costing me 10k in the future, because whatever, right?

But yeah, I've still been depressed AF. I feel you completely. You're definitely not alone — a lot of my friends feel the same and actually I know quite a lot of people and that's some form of relief at least.

What you can rely on is the fact that you're not alone. I think we're at the worst stage of our lives in terms of mental health (even though feeling fully developed), we go through a lot of complete social b*llshit and academics are just ridiculous, particularly if you're at college/university.

It's nice to see I'm not the only student here, things are messed up dude. I'd love to just work full time as I do over term breaks, and just wake up, work, go to bed, and have weekends to stew. Imagine the money! I earn above minimum atm, but I have no doubt it's better than this.

Regardless though, I'm giving myself this year to hang out with other students and forgetting the 10k. I like hanging with ppl and doing what I want alone. But can never figure out what to do next year. Good luck

i know how you feel, i'm in a similar situation. i failed all classes except one last year, ended up taking this year as a break and am ambivalent about going back in the new term. it's a very difficult situation to be in, especially if you're feeling the pressure from people around you to do what they want you to do, rather than what you want to do and/or what you know would be best for you. anyway, i really hope you are able to do what you want, and i wish you the best of luck with everything!

Hmm, but we sometimes don't know what it's best for us. The problem is being depressed, you stop caring and putting effort in to study and do assignments becomes artificial and miserable.

Dropped/failed out of college 3 separate times, took me 8ish years to get an associates degree. College is a waste of time and money if you don't know what you want to do for work. You're wise to take time off and work, save up and then if you want to go back to school the option is always there. I'm not sure what type of school you go to but community college is super super underrated, my biggest is regret is not just going to CC out of high school and instead going to UNI because it was 'expected' of me.

that's true, i should've worded it better – i wanted to say OP should do what they feel is best for them at the moment, and if that involves stopping going to college/uni and working then that's perfectly fine. like others have said, the option to return is always there. i definitely know the feeling of assignments becoming a miserable task, and that unsurprisingly (!) makes it incredibly difficult to want to continue with education. depression suffocates every aspect of life

Have been seeing a lot of posts on 'university vs trades' since the covid and university 'wokeness' retardation started. HVAC gets high recommendations, as does designing and/or installing process controllers for production and other types of manufacturing. Whatever it it, hope you find something you enjoy doing.

Why don't you just do that if it's a way of life that would make you happy?
