I've been thinking about this a lot and to be honest it doesn't really. I mean what are you gonna do when you're dead. CTB is already seen as an act of cowardice by the majority of society so what difference does it really make. Plus you're not gonna feel anything anymore and even if there is some sort of afterlife I doubt you'd have any interest in earth any longer since it's a total clusterfuck.

I thought about this before as well and kinda agree.
Except for a few sensitive files I still have to delete.

In the grand scheme of things, we are sort of in our own realities,
should my life come to an end,
I no longer have to acknowledge this universe.

The senses, cognitive functions fade away,
so does the life force within.

End of an era.
Among the stars.

I always thought that deleting embarrassing data is still best before CTB'ing on the off chance that the afterlife is real and that I could later run into people who potentially could have found that data if I didn't delete it.

I have a ton of very sensitive client data which I store encrypted and secure, there is a protocol in place such that should I pass away or retire their information will be securely erased. It may not matter to me once I'm gone but I feel that as a decent human being I owe it to those who place their trust in me to honour that trust to the fullest extent I can. I would say the same about my family, I wouldn't want them torturing themselves by combing through my files (assuming they could access them) and looking for clues and misinterpreting things, I would rather know that I have left them without such worries after I pass.

It's a personal preference, but just as I have a written will, basic funeral arrangements and other wishes recorded, I feel more secure in knowing that the 'admin' of my death would be taken care of before I left. One less burden to leave for my family and friends.

In truth you are right but most ppl are ignorant about suicide and call it cowardice. In truth its a brave act.

I don't think I have anything I would care if anyone sees even while I'm alive.

It doesn't.
Most of our foibles are not that interesting, and unless you invest in specialised security software or take a hammer (or a supermagnet) to your hard drive files can be recovered quite easily.

I'm probably not going to bother, even though a lot of my stuff is pretty embarrassing. I figure the more you leave of yourself behind, the better for anyone who wants to remember you. Although I suppose the opposite is more of a clean break.

It helps to delete data that may lead to this forum or other suicide websites so people don't freak out about "a website causing people to commit suicide"/for the safety and preservation of these websites.

Don't forget it might also be a good idea to cover one's own tracks from browsing this site before CTB'ing in case vengeful loved ones get more fuel to add to a potential crusade against this forum we all love so much...

I always thought people called it cowardice because they see it as running away from your problems instead of facing them and trying to fix them.

On the other hand I think people that call it the easy way out are implying that to us suicide is easy, which is far from the truth.

If you're going to wipe your HD. Take a drill to it or use DBan.org and choose a level 4 wipe. That way no one will ever discover your embarrassing weeb art, love notes between yourself and you, and your giant furry porn collection.

People who refer to it as the 'easy way' tend to be the people who have never given any serious thought to suicide.
There's my two pennies worth.

There are only two thing I need to delete before my death, and that's the draft of the note for my ex-friend and my Instagram note-post.
Otherwise I considered wiping my phone, but if I'm saved it'll be a (additional) pain in the ass to lose all my data, so no.
