Help Does anyone know how to identify a long gun?

I'm so excited — I've discovered some sort of long rifle at my parents', and all I've got to do is identify it so that I can buy ammunition. Is there a good way to go about doing that? I think it's real since it has a nice weight to it. I can't believe I'm so close… Thanks in advance.

im not really experienced in guns but you could use google reverse image search to try and identify it

Oh I'm terrible with them T_T So many of them look similar, so I was wondering if there was a sort of science to getting it accurate

u sure that its unloaded ? if it is then maybe check around for an ammo box

It has stampings on the side of it that tell you what it is (99% of the time).

Thank you :-) I didn't give it a thorough look-over, though I probably should have before asking! I guess I got a little overzealous
