I'm not talkin' about medications you take regularly, but medications you take only when anxiety strikes. Would clonazepam help?

depends on what youre looking to help. i deal with a lot of chest pain when i have an anxiety/panic attack so i was hopeful to get propranolol to help ease the pain and then go from there

I used to take Xanax and then Ativan. The former was amazing, but was only prescribed to me for like a week due to its addictive nature. Ativan was actually perfect for me, though that also was prescribed short-time. Then I was switched to Benadryl, though that eventually messed with my anxiety (plus, it's bad for the kidneys and liver long term).

Now, I'm on Atarax for seemingly good. One good thing about it is that works fast. Plus, it's non-addictive.I just don't like how drowsy it makes me (hence why I typically only take half of my 50 mg pill).

Benzos are perfect for that exact kind of sporadic usage, as long as you can use them responsibly. They can be really effective but you don't want to become dependent because withdrawal is insane. Clonazepam is nice because it lasts the longest at up to 12 hours, so if you take it mid-late morning it basically lasts the whole day. Individual experience varies though so the only way to know for sure is to try things.

Yes. that would help. So would diazepam (valium.) You would need a prescription, though, unless someone you know has them..

I wish, all kind of anxiety meds haven't helped me so far. The only thing that's helping me getting through life right now is taking my sleep meds when I get anxiety. As soon as anxiety or bad flashbacks happen, I have to take it and just fall asleep or else I have an insufferable time in a lot of emotional pain. I can't handle it anymore. Better to be sleepy and asleep most of the time than deal with all this anxiety and all these panic attacks, they've gotten so much worse this year and I can't bear it.

I take Clonazepam and Alprazolam for Generalized anxiety disorder (My stress response button is glued to my forehead). Clonazepam prevents me from shaking and getting sick. Alprazolam helps with panic, heart-rate, and depression to an extent.

Clonazepam works, though it's overkill for occasional anxiety. It's significantly more potent than other benzos. Diazepam or Lorazepam would be ideal if you have no tolerance.

Not exactly for anxiety, I've also used Temazepam before dentist appointments. Even when getting a filling, I felt okay. I can't speak for others, those are just the meds I've been on.

If you're unable to get a prescription. You can try Valerian root. It smells terrible (recommend pill form). Passionflower also works well.

I wish the best for you, it took 5 years of terrible meds to reach Clonazepam.

hydroxyzine is a non-benzo alternative you can take PRN (as needed), but it is pretty sedating

I think you can take Lyrica PRN as well

I enjoyed the effects of quetiapine until the weight gain became too much. It is arguably more dangerous than benzos, but it is much easier to acquire. I told them it worked well for sleep and got an Rx for 25 mg. I would take 2-3 of these as needed. At that dose, it is not really supposed to do anything but put you to sleep, but I noticed a change in my mood for the better when I took it regularly. If it were not for the weight gain and intimidating long-term risks, I would still take it.

Psychiatric facilities in the UK have started giving patients promethazine instead of benzodiazepines. I remember my mum giving me this back in the 1970s, so I was uncertain.
But it's been amazing. It's not combined with codeine as seems to be common in the US.
50mg is given for sleep and 25mg for anxiety. It has a rapid action. In fact, I usually get into bed before taking it as it can hit so quickly that I have been known to miss the bed and fall on the floor.
It's not addictive, although you will develop a tolerance the same as with any benzodiazepine.
The LD50 is crazy high so doctors are much less reticent about prescribing it.

The best thing to do would be try to get really descriptive about what actual symptoms of anxiety you have.
I asked a doctor about this, and said I didn't want to take benzos because of the addictive potential and I didn't want to feel "high", so they gave me Catapres.
It made me completely pass out. Catapres is a blood pressure medication. If you get really hot-blooded and jittery and rapid heart and panicky, apparently it works really well..... but I have naturally low blood pressure and don't have any symptoms like that. So it just was like poison. It was worse than completely ineffective. My blood pressure was 80/50.

I get really shut down when I get anxious, I get cold and my heart rate actually drops and I was always mistaken for "trying to sleep in class" when I was having episodes because I start having catatonic symptoms and flop over and go into the fetal position, so I've discovered the best thing for me is a little Tylenol..... and half a sugar-free energy drink, meaning usually about 120mg caffeine and a lot of B-vitamins. Yeah. I'm the bozo who takes caffeine for anxiety. But it works, and it works quickly. I've also had good results with nicotine cessation lozenges, but the addictive potential is too strong and the effect for me is about the same as caffeine, so I'd rather just drink 1/3rd a Bang energy once a week.

I don't think this is the right answer for 99% of people but my point is, find treatments that target your symptoms.
