Discussion Does anyone get completely bored with hobbies and prefers to use drugs instead?

I've tried playing the piano, playing tennis, jogging, reading a book etc.. and all of it just bores me completely. I would rather sit down and have a joint or a drink of alcohol. Without drugs, I feel suicidal and boredom 90-100% of the time.

Yes. I've lost all interest in anything except numbing things as much as possible.

Drugs can be pretty boring too
I tend to go through the same boring routine when I'm high that I do sober

But then there is nothing more boring than when there is no drugs and you have to be sober for however long. That is clinical boredom

Drugs and listening to music while doing other things is a hobby. Drugs and playing music and singing. Have you ever nailed a song playing and singing while high?

The way I see it addictive drugs lead to dependence. Dependence leads to not hitting the same high. So best case is recreational drugs periodically. Singing a favorite song hits different

I've tried to stop smoking pot so many times over the last 8-9 years. It never works though, I make it through maybe a couple months at most and then go back to smoking because I can't find anything else to do with myself. I feel empty and without pleasure without them, and even trying to keep myself busy like others suggest does nothing for me. It kind of sucks because when I smoke my short term memory is shit, making learning and retaining info difficult. But there's just nothing else that keeps me occupied enough to not have this sinking feeling, not nearly as much as just getting stoned and hazy enough to not think at all.

I often combine them. I manage to play sport at a decent level, sometimes socialise and I have even been to work when under the influence. As long as it's the right substance and it's controlled, it isn't necessarily an issue.

Sound advice - being caught in the act is a dismissal in most jobs I would imagine.

Drinking and drugs don't distract me from shit unfortunately. I can't handle pot AT ALL.
