Just the title really. I always struggle to complete anything whether it be a book, game, series etc.

I don't know why I feel this all the time but it is kinda frustrating, its like I feel scared to complete any task.

I was just wondering if anyone experiences something similar to me and how you deal with it.

With games books and anime, I manage. With everything else, I fail totally. I tried weight lifting but gave up after a few tries. I gave up trying to get good at mountain biking. I gave up playing guitar. I think the fact that nothing makes me happy means I don't really get positive feedback when I complete things so I have no motivation to try.

I asked a therapist I was seeing if it could be ADHD and was told I pay attention too well when she talks... never did get a second opinion.

I get so much anticipation for starting something, but very rarely finish. when I was crocheting I could easily find 30 half finished things and the only things I ever finished were gifts.

games I get excited to play and have every expectation to finish, but never get further than an hour in before never picking it up again.

I never watch shows because I know I can't finish them. even movies I'll stop halfway and wander off.

Was going to mention adhd. These sound like common symptoms of adhd, because its difficult to focus or concentrate we dont get the same pleasure out of everyday tasks like most people do, then procastination kicks in and we dont bother anymore.
Sounds like the therapist might have over simplfied adhd. Im awaiting a diagnosis myself currently.

Yes, I usually find it hard to finish series, games or even books.

I don't think it's related to ADHD like some people are saying. in my case it's a fear of closure in some way. Once I finish it, then it's over, I won't be able to enjoy it the same way I did before I knew how things ended.

I do. I thought it was only with mundane and boring things like learning. But lately, I've been finding it hard to complete anything, even the things that I'm only interested in nowadays, such as video games.

I've bought lots of video games this year. Resident Evil 2, Spec Ops, The Witcher 3, Alan Wake games, Far Cry Primal, Final Fantasy 7, and much more, but I still haven't finished them even though I've had them for almost a year already (or even more)

Yes. Over the years it's gotten harder and harder for me to stay focused enough or have enough energy to complete tasks or projects, let alone even want to START anything. I try to do more than just watch movies all day (and even that is difficult 99% of the time, so mostly I just replay movies I've seen tons of times already just to have something on that I don't have to really pay attention to) but I just don't care enough anymore or have it in me to do much else.

I stopped reading books because i can't finish them anymore due to the lack of concentration needed to read them.
now I just watch short anime series (about 20 episodes) and films, i've become passive.

I'm inconsistent, as I can do things that are considered 'disciplined' but also can't even start, never mind complete other tasks. I think it's a motivational thing in the end, as broad as that is, but when I get lectured about just doing things with 'discipline' I want to ask them what exactly the concept of discipline even means, or how they can say that their discipline isn't just motivation or that even though it's not tangible some have it 'easier' than others mentally etc etc, but it all sounds like a bunch of excuses, even to myself at times despite the fact that I don't think there's any such thing as a 'poor excuse' if it stops you from doing something. All's I can do is point to the things that I do actually do to demonstrate that it's not just a mindset that applies to everything in life. Also on an unrelated note I use quotation marks a lot in my posts, geez.

It's rare that I finish what I start - jobs, hobbies, clubs I join, etc.

Can't finish anything atm. My house is a mess, my bills haven't been paid this month yet. Got paperwork piling up and a number of books I've started.

I have had this problem for a very long time. I used to like writing short fiction stories and posting them, but lately I haven't had the motivation to start anything new. Also, I've tried writing longer ones in the past, some with the intention of possibly publishing them myself, but I lose the motivation to continue and it's rare that I make it further than a chapter or two because that's usually where my progress comes to a halt.

I've quit college because I lost interest in that, I've dropped other hobbies that I used to have, and now it's hard for me to even finish reading a book or finishing a game because of the same reason. It's extremely hard to stay motivated about anything, but I think it's partially caused by the desire to die that I keep experiencing.

I used to want to be an artist in High School, but I gave up because I could never finish my projects and finish them on time without a teacher badgering me about it. Every creative project I've ever undertaken outside of school I never finished.

All the time really... Specially with games. I find myself at times starting a New Game all over, just because I can't bring myself to go through the 3rd or 4th mission. It's weird... But it has to do with motivation is my bet. :notsure:
