Discussion Does anyone else on here have pets?

I myself have a pet corn snake. Their one of the few things that makes me hesitate when I think of suicide. I'm curious if it's the same for any others on here

I've got loads of family pets, honestly. My biggest anchor was always my dog, but she's quite old now.

I was so close to owning a Japanese Spitz (type of a dog) and I even already put down the deposit for it. I was gonna raise the puppy as my assistance dog and for it to also be my protective factor to hopefully stir away from acting on my SI. However, the breeder cancelled it last minute, leading to me feeling like I've lost everything at that time and attempting a rather impulsive suicide attempt. I do wonder still whether having the puppy would have prevented or at least discouraged me or made me rethink about my past attempts…

I used to. I had three dogs, but over the last couple years they all passed from old age.

I understand what you mean though. When they were around, they gave me a doubt in my mind around taking my own life. Who would feed them, walk them, take care of them, etc.

It has always been my job in the family, no one else even acknowledges their existence.

There's something about being responsible for a life that depends on you.

I have 3 cats 2 boys and 1 girl who thinks she's my mama. They'll be the only regret if I follow through. I hope I don't I hope I get out the depressive cycle soon and switch over to stay here thinking. But I've set up systems for them. I know my roommates will take care of them or at least find them good homes. I also won't leave my with them after I'm gone I I do go I've seen to many sad videos of pets being kept for quarantine afterward their owners passed.

I got them as anchors so I'd stay here and well I guess they are working I'm consumed but I'm with guilt at the same time because I wish I would've let somebody stable adopt and love them and I wouldn't have this extra worry. But I guess I also might not be here without them. I love them so much I cry looking at them :(
I just bought them the biggest cat tree it almost touches the ceiling and I'm only a little jealous they'd rather sleep on rather than next to me lol

a dog, but occasionally I feel that she would be happier without me. I don't think that my gloomy personality and lack of energy are any good for her. My parents' affection for animals is one of their only few good traits, so I'm confident they wouldn't abandon her.
