Discussion Do you view life in absolutes?

Examples:

• I'm unable to attain a certain lifestyle hence I'm a failure
• I don't fit a specific beauty standard hence I'm ugly
• I don't attract the people I desire hence I'm a loser
• I passed a certain age hence all hope is lost

For myself yes, I'm an absolutist. Hence I must die.

I guess I view life in absolutes but in terms of suffering. I consider all suffering to be bad in my case and I can't think of a single case where suffering is good. Sure, there's cases where you can suffer a lesser amount to alleviate further potential suffering of a greater magnitude (like working to avoid homelessness) but even then I see that sort of suffering as bad too

I do not see work as suffering as long as the work is meaningful (to me) and compensates sufficiently to supplement a comfortable lifestyle. Anything below that spectrum is suffering; working to survive. To me that is a life without dignity, humanity, and freedom. Aka a life not worth living.

Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't. Usually I'm just absolutely in the middle and torn between the two ends of most things. When I am absolute about something it's pretty difficult to be swayed another way but it's happened before so I guess I can't say I'm always absolutely absolute all the time. I do dream of an absolution though.

A lot of what you describe seems to be self-identifying statements, I don't do those as much anymore, at least not let external circumstances influence myself image to a detrimental degree. I just try to recognize a deficiency of some sort and deal with it as I can if I can.
