The title thing, I mean the effort that many people make to improve society or certain problems, in this regard, I am neutral but I think that certain problems are so deeply rooted in society that it is almost impossible to make them disappear

I do.

But I'm not sure if I have enough fuel left in me to accomplish anything.

And I'm very deeply aware of the painfully complicated subjectivity of existence. Sometimes people can sincerely strive for the best and just make things worse. 75% of the things I used to think were good I now see the profound danger of. 75% of the things I used to think were evil I now see the virtue of. It's shaken me as a human being.

Yes, I do believe it's worth trying to improve certain issues in our society; I believe some issues can be less tempting to tackle depending on the scope and severity of the situation. For example, a goal such as "erradicate world hunger" is an enormous and ambiguous task, well-meaning but ultimately unfocused; many approaches could be taken but you would need to account a lot of factors and gather enough resources to kickstart something. However, if you change the target to something more specific and closed, let's say, "reduce hunger by 5% in 2022 among poor single-parent families in insert state or county of your choice", then it doesn't seem so unrealistic or tempting anymore. It's more relatable to the average person.

I've always believed that even the smallest acts of kindest can make an impact on someone else's life. They may not solve bigger issues, but if they make someone start taking the right choices in their life or motivate them to challenge their beliefs and reflect on them, then I think it's a good start.

I don't know if our existence is fundamentally meaningless or not, but even if we will all perish in the end, I believe it's worth trying to change how we live today and in the future, as our species will probably still last for some time. There are millions of individuals who wish to live a happy and fulfilling life, many who've suffered and do not wish others to go through the same; we want to do something good for others because we are a rational and emotional species, we not only look out for our needs but for others' needs too; we've built so much and we can't just destroy everything as if it was nothing. That's why I think we can do something, even if it's extremely small, to change the world.

Our names won't be recorded in the history books, but we will live in the memories of those we've had a positive and meaningful impact on.

I used to but then I came to appreciate how much all human efforts to improve things are hijacked by one particular group of filthy psychopaths who use it for their mentally ill megalomaniacal agenda that usually has to do with a deeply seated sense of entitlement within a sick messianic worldview. After understanding that reality, I gave up.

It's possible to achieve small victories, but significant changes for the better usually occur after some horrific disaster & there's no guarantee they won't be temporary. We seem to be incapable of learning anything from history.

Not really, there will always be an incalculable amount of suffering regardless. It's like trying to drain the ocean by scooping out the water with a Dixie cup. Also humans have a tendency to self destruct anyway.

I have zero interest in saving this world. I didn't make it the way it is, I've had no impact on the direction it's going. I would rather put my efforts toward helping individuals who are important to me.

I think we can only affect change on a micro level. But to help spread kindness and goodness is also a personal way of saying "Fuck you!" to an otherwise callous and screwed up world and society. Some books attached about the reality of our bleak future as earthlings...

I believe that euthanasia should be legalised everywhere, that is the way to make this world better. Our right to die should be respected. I deserve to exit peacefully at a time of my own choosing, it is a horrible world we live in where people have to resort to risky and traumatic methods to end their pain.

Hey, this opinion of yours made me think a lot, since recently I saw a coinference from a specialist who mentioned that the legalization of free euthanasia would make a radical and positive change in the behavior of many people

I've always tried to improve the world in small ways. I can't do very much, so I focus on the things I think are most important. The tipping point doesn't require more than 50% on any given issue, it's actually a much smaller percentage.
Unfortunately now that people lie about facts, it seems impossible to motivate humans to work together for common cause.

Bro idk where the hell you came from but you make a lot of sense to me, I like how you think, and I empathize with how you feel.

I don't think its worth striving to make a better world at this time. At least not on a large scale. I think its always worth the effort to be kind and respectful to those directly around you. I'm not going to go into details because I'm sure a couple of posters will come screeching up to the thread to chastize me for wrongthink, but its simple.

A lot of the virtues modern societies run on are done in bad faith. They're done with the intention to sow discordance, and it worked, and theres no putting the genie back in the bottle. Its over.

Life was a mistake

Human nature makes that impossible. Modern society only exacerbates the inherent problems of human nature even more. It's only been in the past 100-150 years of the thousands of years that some people have started mildly giving a fuck about things like "human rights" and "humane treatment." Even so, torture and suffering is endured by people on a widespread scale everyday, and despite many of these causes of suffering being well known and preventable, little to nothing is ever done to stop it. Yeah this is probably the "best" time period for the largest amount of people depending on how you look at it since cavemen days, but that's really not saying much.

I think the wider society should strive toward making improvements towards quality of life, being more compassionate and rational, but that's not likely to happen while corrupt, psychopathic, and authortarian figures are the dominant forces in civilization, which can never and will never be completely avoided. Those who are the least suited to power are the ones most likely to seek it out.

On one hand, I think this world is an irredeemable shithole of immense suffering. Think of how horribly some humans suffer, and then realize that to be human is to luck out, in a way, given that all but the most fortunate of animals get to experience predation, starvation as well as illnesses and parasites they can do nothing about. Imagine the horror of being eaten alive.

On the other hand, there is no ethical nor pragmatic reason not to alleviate suffering and improve conditions for beings who are stuck here, especially given how hard it is to ctb (and given the immense trauma survivors are left to bear). It's the least we could do if we have the power to do so.

People should strive for a better world, thing is that those who hold power and control the higher positions of Nations and Governments will never put the betterment of the world and it's people first. There is a very insightful quote along the lines of "The Fealty and control of Kings felt insurmountable to overcome, but was achieved in time" Problem is in this day and age those in control have power that makes past Kings and Rulers look like Elementary School bullies in the sandbox. For me it feels like it's been too late for a long time now, and all there is to be done is to sit wait and watch as we destroy ourselves until those in power I mentioned abandon ship and take their gold plated Rocket Ships to Mars to start the cycle all over again.

I think we should never stop striving to heal the planet we've destroyed. Apparently we're due at least 1m raise in sea levels if we literally stopped our poluting right now. We've raped this planet and we've all played a part in it to some degree. We need to start addressing our actions and consumption and maybe consider having less children for a while in order to lessen the strain on the planet. The poor fuckers aren't going to thank you for being born into this world anyway lol. There's less than 10 years for us to turn things round enough to make it worthwhile. That is such a small amount of time!

Why 10 years though?

Considering our souls are trapped in a closed-loop system which we cannot escape, I strongly agree that it is up to us to clean our shit and repair this planet before subjecting other innocent souls to this place to ensure dystopian nightmare does not gets loose. It is in our interest to keep this planet safe, environment clean, pets safe and have healthy and loving relationship with each other.

@diyCTB That's the projection based on scientific research. It's not exact. I think they said 10-12yrs. Wish I could find the source to site but it's pretty well known in the scientific community so suspect its easy to confirm or deny with a little search. I guess it's worked out in all sorts of ways but generally I assume they work it out by taking the rate of decline (in various aspects of nature that affect the ice caps and atmosphere etc) and our rate of pollution and its impact on said issues. We've been borrowing from the future for a long long time already.

Who are these "select entitled few"?
I'm guessing you're one of them or have received all of your reference points for reality from them. Even though they suffer from a narcissistic fake inferiority complex / real superiority complex with a megalomaniacal mission to save the world from not being told how to think and behave by them, you're quite certain they (or you) know best. Thankfully I needn't live up to their majestic, nay, divine, standards. It's so kind of these people (or you) to look after so many things for the rest of us. Thanks, you're so...helpful. You're so...ethical. I mean after all the biggest victim can't also be the overlord, right? Especially since it doesn't matter how something happened since it happened...sound logic indeed. Some people are just chosen to "help" the rest of humanity...humanity, of course, being something only qualified for after properly understanding the sacred knowledge. The part that's meant for the subhumans waiting to be certified as human underlings by these magic people, that is. I just need to understand my place in the grand scheme of things. I think I do understand it actually. It took a while because there is so much double think and outright lying, cheating and treachery that I was implicitly taught from early on in life wasn't supposed to matter when done by these POS select entitled few but I think I finally do understand. You're right to be worried. You'd better hope no one else understands. I'm the least of your worries. Unfortunately for you, some people who've outgrown the abusive training by which they were made to feel grateful for being given "Good Migrant See How We're Better Than Christians" gold stars aren't living on their knees like I am. When they realize the extent to which they've been lied to, cheated and betrayed - a summation of the history of the world with these POS select entitled few as the main characters - they just might have a very long memory and they just might be very very angry. What's the phrase?..oh yeah: Never forget. And guess what? I won't.

The only feasible way to improve the world for most of us is to conquer our personal demons and become the best version of ourselves possible. Especially since we are in this forum, we have no surplus energy to spend on other fronts.

It's easy to see the array of follies in your surroundings, but can we see what responsability WE have in the continuation of the shitshow?
