Does anyone have physical scars from either previous attempts, self harm, or just an accident? I'm asking just because the cuts I made on my wrist and leg are scarring and I'm reminded about it everyday. Want to know if anyone else feels this way and is reminded of the scars each and everyday. By no means is this post meant to bring back ugly memories and I truly hope it doesn't.

Yes I have scars on both of my arms from self-harm years ago. I smashed a glass and cut myself with it while slightly inebriated.

My scars are mostly from botched surgeries after having cancer. Most are covering my chest. It makes me feel mutilated. I rarely look in the mirror anymore unless they are covered up, and I can barely stand to let anyone else see the wreckage. There's a lot of associated nerve damage and phantom pain, as well. They're constantly on my mind.

No. The only ones are small and incidental. It's a sign of an unlived life.

My entire body is covered in self-harm scars.

I'm an extremely self-conscious, self-hating person, but for some reason my scars don't bother me; they go back to age 12. I don't really have hair on my arms or parts of my legs anymore because it's all scar tissue. Not very noticeable from a distance, but in certain lighting, they look brutal.

I guess I'm okay with them because I know how much pain I was in then and how much relief they brought at the time. Sort of like a surgery scar for correcting a painful condition (kind of).

Some remind me of specific incidents, but the scar itself isn't the thing that triggers bad memories for me. Things happened and it felt like my world was ending, but it didn't and I have hundreds of reminders of that.

It makes me pause a lot when I'm feeling impulsive because I know that in 5-10 years, life might not hurt in the same way or the same intensity it does now.

Only from minor accidents , a glass breaking while washing up and slicing my knuckle to the bone , accidental German shepherd bite seving my nerves on my hand ,broken glass falling from a greenhouse and embedding in my arm and a few motorcycle battle scars , fortunately much to the amazement of nurses i heal really quick , as i always tell them lol... hand was worse when they cleaned the blood out and said i needed a skin graft , i said no it will be fine in a few day , as you can see six days later heald , just numb now though lol
My foot gives me grief on a night though as i dropped a concrete slab on it last year and i cant move two toes now , it feels cold all the time and often get a hotwater bottle out to rest it on lol , guess i should have gone to hospital instead of carrying on working and i did have to wear one clown shoe for a while lol

I have some self inflicted burn scars on my hand and arms. The ones from when I was a teenager are barely noticeable but my recent one from last year is pretty gross looking

I recently cut my wrist, leg, and foot. I hid it pretty well though and I'm glad it's cold out so I can wear long pants and long sleeve shirts. I also made some bruises on my arm by biting it and scratching at myself. It was all out of impulse but I'm glad the bite marks didn't stay. I'm not sure how I feel when I look at the scars. Sometimes it gives me relief knowing that if needed it's always an option...

I have self harm scars up one arm but since I have to wear a short sleeved uniform for work I now have to cut on my upper legs so no one can see them.

I have scars on my upper arms, I used to be a cutter. I dont think about them, they dont bring any ugly memories, if anything cutting gave me peace and relief.

I do hide my scars whenever in public. Easy to hide, any shirt with sleeves does the trick for me.

I have self harm scars covering both of my calves, my right forearm, and both of my thighs. I don't really feel bad when I see them, I just hate knowing that as soon as I harm myself all of my pain goes away. It's like the only thing that makes me feel better these days.

I started cutting myself when I was in my late teens, thirty years ago. At age 23 I attempted to ctb and cut both my wrists/forearms badly (even damaging the tendons in the process) but was found rather quickly after doing so, taken to the hospital and stitched up - I guess by a student because it was done really quite badly. Not that I cared, mind you. And I counted them afterwards: 129 stitches in total. They're nasty looking, thick white scars, with dots around them. I have continued to cut myself through the years, either my arms, shoulder, legs. I only do it on those moments when the internal pain (or numbness) are so unbearable, I somehow have to try and externalize it... Or at least, try to.

I have a nasty scar on my right wrist from a surgery to repair a seriously broken bone.

It's completely obvious and most medical professionals assume it's from a botched suicide attempt.

It pisses me off when they catch a glimpse and then say, "Can I just see that wrist for a moment?" as if I'm hiding something relevant.

I have self harm scars on my left arm and thighs and also near my neck, I think. I also think I have scars and marks on my back from the physical abuse I went through but I haven't looked properly. I also have a scar on my right knee from when I fell down once back in college and I also have a scar on my thigh which came from the fence I climbed over back in college.

Self harm scars on my right lower arm and on my right thigh.. I can't see the one's on my arm unless I look hard enough.
The one's on my thigh are clearly visible :/ It sucks. My right side of the body is like my self-harming side.

Yes, I have scars. from when I was 16 and recently causing some nerve damage as they are so deep. all from an abusive manager at work Brought on a major episode. No one has really helped either, i have tried. I complained but nothing has been done to support me. why the abusers get away with this is beyond me. If I don't work, I'm homeless. I have no family so am alone. I refuse to live on the street, so my options are slim

You should go see somebody about your foot. The whole foot looks so inflamed for something that happened a yr ago. You could lose toes and your foot if it gets bad enough.

No physical scars or damage to my own body or cognitive impairment but lost two cars in the process of the attempt.

while surviving an attempt may be life changing to some (to jumpstart a new life) it made me incredibly depressed. Coming out of it alive and worse off than when I started made me want to do it all over again.

That was when i did it , its gone down now but my little toe and the one next to it dont move if i try to curl my toes and my other toes just shake . A few years ago i fell off a ladder and shattered my heel like an egg shell and broke two bones in my other foot , Hospital said it was fine and i couldn't walk or even stand , they rang me two days later to tell me they made a mistake , i said i though you might have lol , but all they did was give me a pair of crutches . So i couldn't be bothered to sit in ER for hours this time .

Silicone gel is supposed to help new scars and even older scars. It might be worth a try.

Yes, I have self harm scars on both arms and legs. They don't really bother me. The only time I really ever bother to cover them is when they're fresh cuts.

I have a nasty scar across my face from an accident at age 6. I fell off a cliff while playing hide and seek and I scraped a rock ledge on the way down that sliced my face open. I had cosmetic surgery at 14 to improve the looks of it, but that actually made it worse (and as a bonus, the surgeon sexually molested me).

Kids were cruel and adults would stare. I felt like a monster. 30 years later the scar is still noticeable. There's no hiding it.

I'm sorry. I believe everyone is beautiful and your scar does not define you in anyway. People shouldn't stare ever at anyone because everyone has their own individual beauty no matter what they look like.

Most adults in my life now are polite enough to ignore it, but just as recently as last week an asshole co worker told me " Damn shame. If it wasn't for your scar you'd be a solid 8 and a half." Umm...thank you..I guess?"

Ugh people can be so stupid sometimes. People can't see how beautiful everyone is. Inner and outer beauty. People also don't know how to stop talking and keep annoying things to themselves
