Fairly new member here. I just wanted to ask the opinion of the community if they think suicide as a commodity would be kind of ok?

Since this is a safe space to talk about suicide and a lot of people are wishing suicide and a peaceful death on your own terms would neither be punished nor absurdly difficult, I'm interested in the answers.

If things like assisted suicide would become legal throughout the world and suicide wouldn't be such a taboo topic with so much negativity attached to it, would you fear that sooner or later, suicide would become a product that people who want to CTB shop around for and trying to get "the best bang for the buck" experience? Would it become a competition on who had a better suicide?

Or do you think this is not going to happen or you don't see that as critically?

no the option to suicide should be a birthright world wide the more governments that allow for assisted dying the better imo

It could happen and if it did I'd expect a host of packages with useless addons presented to us and probably even something to make a single person feel they ahve to pretend to be married to jump a queue or get a discount or something. but there will still be a black market, I mean uless they fence off every cliff face an d large hill, there is one method that will always be available.

If it were a way of simply offering an injection and then the dying person signing over all belongings, tangiable and virtual to the state I will e fi9ne with it.

I feel like there would be more marketing for "last day experience" or "live today like it's your last".

This is ALREADY happening. Haven't you seen pegasos???? 20k.

No once you commodify it we're all just agreeing to be ok with profiteering of a death market- which AGAIN is already happening. And it's not ok.

I don't need billionaires profiting yet ONCE more. Even after they've driven you into the ground and blacked out the sun or poison our food or kill us in whatever sick fuck ways that's been on a slow drip for all our lives.

What kind of question is this? Am I "kind of" ok. No. Never. I've never been ok with any of this shit. I never even wanted to die to begin with. It just happened bc of societal apathy. .

In our society, anything becomes a product when there is a need. It is still a taboo precisely because millions of miserable lives are needed living with the minimum to support the richest. If in the future there is a drastic depletion of resources such as drinking water, it will no longer be taboo. There will be a suicide market similar to pharmacies and maybe even governments will make it easier for the elderly and people with an illness that causes public coffers to spend a lot of money and other resources.

In the context of a consumerist, capitalist society, yet more marketing babble won't be pushing us across the River Styx. We're across it already...

What I wonder about will be the ai versions of ourselves that loved ones can download, that might be in luxury death packages. I wonder if some families would actually prefer that idealised version.

Well it already has happened with abortion in many places, and if anything euthanasia should be less controversial.

Personally, I don't care care to be quite honest. If I could pay someone a few grand for a peaceful end, I would do so. He or she can deal with the ethics of taking money to end someone's life.
