Assuming what scientists tell us is true, humans are essentially a large group of hairless apes that by chance happened to become more intelligent and self aware than other animal species.

Now a majority of us are forced to work pointless jobs to survive because a bunch of people got together in the past and decided that this is how our society would work.

We try to convince ourselves that human life is special and sacred but in reality we are no more important than insects. We are a tiny speck in a gigantic universe and everything that exists today will eventually be destroyed.

I feel like most normal people never think about stuff like this because they have enough going on in their lives to distract them, but at the end of the day we are all living a meaningless existence.

All the time. I think humans are a failed species. It's a beautiful planet, but that, in itself, isn't life. Humans are blessed and cursed with consciousness. Our natural behavior would to be to recognize, live and celebrate the blessings. But we live in a world of our consciousness being hijacked in such a way, we experience more of the curse than the blessing. And, all for the sake of mere survival and of being controlled. This is not a world I care to live in. It's run by criminal psychopaths who have set up human life to be more about existence than living. What's the point of living on a planet where the majority of people are so dumbed-down, they blindly comply with anything they're told? Common sense and free will are things of the past. We've all been turned into robots masquerading as living, breathing, fully-functioning human beings. There's nothing human about it.

We're communicating over an information system that interacts immediately, can be accessed by anyone on the planet, and holds infinitely more information than the Library of Alexandria. The average person can read, write, and has significantly more education than any other point in history. As close as the early 1900s, most countries in Europe and North America (along with most of world's democracies) didn't allow women to vote. People on average have more comforts and safety than the greatest empires in the world ever did. I have plenty of issues with modern politicians, but if you think it was better under the king and emperors than I would encourage you to read up on the feudal histories of England, France, Japan, Rome, etc. I agree existence isn't worth much in my eyes, but I struggle to understand the black-pill view that things are worse now or we don't have free will. Any analysis of history shows the plight of the average human has decreased tremendously throughout history to today; what has gone the opposite direction is the degree of animal suffering we inflict.

Our natural behavior is exactly what we have done throughout history: dominate. I'm not extolling that, but it is the reality of our species. We were one of 9 human species and we were the only ones to survive, we continued to dominate and never looked back.

Of course as it truly is. The existence of life to me really was the most terrible tragedy, human existence is such a futile and dreadful burden that serves no purpose and has no meaning. To exist is just a meaningless process of waiting around to die where we are destined for nothing but to deteriorate, decay and cease existing with all finally forgotten about with for us it being like we never existed at all, it's so absurd to me when people act like their pointless, insignificant existences are supposedly so meaningful

And the reason ending life so soon is unacceptable, is that we're no longer a part of the economic machine. Even MORE absurd, is that we're just finding our own demise. I'm progressively more eager to leave this world every day.

Tenho 57 anos.

I think we have to make our own meaning and purpose in life.

When I feel normal, I see the absolute miracle it is to be alive and how limitless joy and happiness is possible.

Once the depression hits again, just see sadness and suffering.

More times than I can count, from an early age too. At a primary school age I remember asking others about the point of doing things in life, the point of living if it all amounts to nothing in the end. Most of them thought I was weird or that something was wrong with me. I don't understand why we as a species have such a strong desire to live miserable lives.

Have you read camus? I think humans need to create meaning in a meaningless world, which they get from social relationships, family, a role in society, whatever. When these things fail or don't exist, and you search for meaning to find nothing is when you long for death.

I've never read the book you are mentioning, but that definitely makes sense and sounds accurate. It's definitely true for me.
