Do you guys believe in luck?

Obviously luck undeniably exists in some degree. You can flip your car five times and not get a scratch, but that's just a lucky happenstance.

I'm talking inherent luck, that a person has throughout their life. Some people might be lucky, every opportunity they get works in their favor for absolutely no reason, some people might be just the opposite.

Do you think luck exists on a deeper level than just "oh hey I won $30 on a $1 scratch off ticket"?

My personal take on it is yes. I can't help but feel like Luck is more like an aura that a person has, that effects not only those but those around them.

The way I see it, some people are way more lucky than others in this life. Everything in this life is determined by chance and factors out of our control can ruin our lives. Some people are disadvantaged right from the start through no fault of their own.

Luck, and probability, is just expressing a lack of information. Obviously useful, and "real" to some extent. Sounds like you're talking about meta-level luck, being lucky several times over the course of a lifetime.

I think that what we perceive as luck is really just randomness and every thing that happens leads to another thing and so on. So there is chaos and then there are also choices. Sometimes bad things happen because we make bad choices, or ignorant choices. However a lot of the time bad things happen for no reason or are outside of our control, the same with good things. That's because at the end of the day we only control our own choices. The world /other people /the weather etc all do what they want.

I do not believe in luck. I think the universe is just random chaos, sometimes it works in your favour, most times it does not. I guess one can feel lucky, but beyond that it's just happenstance imo.

I don't believe in luck, I think luck is our brains reacting to probability/math with fallacies. It's still a useful concept & word though so i'll "pretend" I believe it when I talk. Since it's a normal human brain thing despite not believing it, there's still times where I believe a (usually gambler's) fallacy, it's hard to unlearn things like this.

I do. Why? Because if such people exist, their counterparts must exist too. People with horrible luck. No matter what they do. I am definitely one of those people, so yes, I do believe in luck.

I believe there's some objective way to measure relative luck between people yeah.
Some people only need to do a little effort to get anywhere, some are doomed from the start.

I do. I actually have good luck counterbalanced with bad (like that one anime character from danganronpa).

Soon i will win the lottery but get my balls and legs and arms shot off the same day
It also can be calculated as if your luck was a stat in a video game.

I believe everything is ultimately luck, whether good or bad. No one can claim to be self-made, unless you just decide to stop at an arbitrary point in your reflections on the matter. Your genetics are luck and your circumstances are luck and everything else just flows naturally from those.

But I don't believe in luck in the sense of something that's an inherent quality of a person, no. Luck can always turn. For some people it doesn't (compared to others), but that's just luck :)

Or I guess I believe in that kind of luck in the sense that some people are just born with the types of personalities that are more resilient and better suited to the realities of this world. That's the kind of constitutive luck that will always give you an advantage over someone with a more fragile personality. So in a sense it's luck that generates more luck. But there's no inherent quality of a person that makes them win the lottery more often or anything like that.

Yes. Life at this point has no guarantee that hard work will equal success, so it's better to gamble all the money available at a chance to become rich and become one of the lucky few who can just live their life without a care in the world.

Some people consider luck to be a force that can "be on your side" or not which is what I was disbelieving in. Something that favours one and not the other on purpose. If you want to call randomness luck sure. I guess it's kind of just semantics at a certain point.

Yes, in my view everything is determined by luck. It's fucking intolerable. I never enjoyed gambling in the first place but the world is basically one big casino.
