This post is just an observation reflection on philosophy, no argument being incited.
As an empath, I cannot help but to look at the faces of the masses, in their quest for desire amongst the status quo, in their cars driving (entitlement and aggression included) or walking/exercising on the street with their heads down on a device (or aimed at their face upwards), or in social places amongst their peers talking about typical pleasantries that make a person 'inclusive', to look "good" and be envied. Nearly all of them have devices in hand. Many don't smile or look around (I am sitting in my parked vehicle writing this now, in solitude, with my attention fully intact). I cannot help to constantly wonder what's going on in their minds as they go about their "business". The ones that do make eye contact compel me to reciprocate with a smile or simple greeting, often appearing to be met with indifference. It's hard for someone like myself not to feel a sort of sadness and awe, especially since at my age have a frame of reference to compare this behavior to. I often feel, as a result, a sense of disgust and the feeling I need to push back and not 'do' what the masses are doing, where progressing is all about "numbers, data, and reaching some sort of goal". Why are we doing this to ourselves? Is it some false sense of aggrandizement where we have this need to outdo our fellow man, to be accepted because we are "progressing", when at the end of the day we're at our basest level as all humans are? Does this all really matter? Are the masses this disillusioned to be caught up in the "reality" that they created to cause the very same masses in the human race to be so miserable? Do my words make any sense to empaths like myself?
