Venting Did you guys hear about that pastor who called for gay people to be "shot in the back of the head"?

I just want to cry right now.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who saw the video of the pastor calling for gay people to be lined up against a wall and shot in the head. At this point I am used to hearing homophobic rhetoric (my workplace culture is very hostile to LGBT+ people and ideas), but something about seeing this video and hearing the crowd vocally agree with the pastor just hurts so much. I'm being reminded of when one of my close friends said "I wouldn't want a gay son"(everyone else there agreed or did not contest this statement), all of the demeaning jokes, all of the times I've had to lie about who I am to protect myself, and just how much it hurts to have my humanity interrogated just because I love different types of people than what is usually expected. What the fuck am I supposed to do? Am I REALLY supposed to try and be an ambassador to someone that thinks I'm inferior to them? I'm just trying to stay alive out here and I have to construct an entire false persona just to try and avoid being completely ostracized?! AS SOON AS THERE IS A SINGLE PERSON LIKE ME IN ANY KIND OF MEDIA HALF OF THE COUNTRY FREAKS THE FUCK OUT! PEOPLE GET ANGRY WHEN THEY HAVE TO ADDRESS THE FACT THAT I EXIST!

YOU CAN OPENLY CALL FOR PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF TO BE EXECUTED IN THE STREETS AND GET PUBLIC SUPPORT.

It can be absolutely crushing to keep the wall up sometimes, between pretending to want to live (do not want to get locked up) and pretending to be straight (or at least staying far away from the question of sexuality).

It really makes for a killer combination when mixed with an already pointless and painful life.

My heart truly goes out to the trans and NB people of the world, I can hardly stay on my feet as a cisgender person, meanwhile there are people showing incredible strength in expressing their identity in this hateful and hostile world. You all are truly amazing, please keep up the good fight . Even if we don't make it there, we are slowly building a world where it is okay to exist as we do.

I've seen that video and several others like it. That's their opinion...their interpretation, and unfortunately it's not going to change.
I am gay, and I am also a Christian. Yes, there are a lot of us out there.
We just have to ignore those people that keep spreading the hatred.

I know how you feel. I wish I knew something to say to give you a little comfort.

I just encourage you to keep on keeping on. You be you, live your most authentic self. Don't allow others to dictate your life.

This is very true. Especially in countries that enforce Sharia law.
Even in UAE , one of the most tolerant Muslim nations, one basically has to go back in the closet. There are little sparks of change here and there, but it's going to take a long time. Sad.

Seriously... WTF is wrong with people??? They preach tolerance... Unless it's someone who is different from them or has a different religious belief than theirs.
The "He Gets Us" is only if you aren't gay, trans, drag queen or needing an abortion.
Also there have been Many translations of the Bible. Most of them were made to fit the people or Kings in power.
I doubt there is an original translation left.
I have mentioned in a past post that drag queens scare me. Not sure why but I wouldn't beat anyone up for it.
I don't have to go to a drag show or watch rupaul's drag race. To many other shows I would rather watch.

Strange question. I know this is a suicide form but feeling fear or distress when someone calls for genocide (especially when it's a group of people you belong to) shouldn't be alien to you. Lgbtq+ aren't protected everywhere.


Even if that were the case, pushing that kind of agenda that all homophobes are just closeted is dangerous - it's giving people who genuinely want to do harm a cover + sympathy. You wouldn't say the same about Hitler - that he was secretly in love with all the Jews. There are people out there who genuinely believe gay people are predators, mentally ill, trying to push some agenda or are provoking God's wrath. People who'll see things like climate change, late stage capitalism and our mental health crisis and instead of coming to a logical conclusion, they'd rather blame it all on one group of people.

I was agreeing with an earlier poster. It is funny how so many people who adamantly speak against gays are actually gay (self-loathing). I try not to take ourselves too serious. We are not going to change the world in our little suicide forum. (respectfully)

Historically Islam tended to be rather relaxed about gay people, and the present attitudes are a bit of an aberration. They may change. Islam is even more relaxed about trans people. I remember the late Ayatollah Khomeini himself, in Iran, once issuing a fatwa that a particular trans woman was entitled to live as a woman.

This is also not representative of all right leaning conservatives. Most of us are just like you. I have seen videos of "far left LGTTQ+ wishing us Christians death. There is evil all around unfortunately and it is in every group. We must always speak against it directly so it cannot flourish anymore than it already has.
