PPeH talks about the detergent suicide method. To me, this seems like a good option: the materials are easy to acquire and death comes quite quickly. I know the handbook rates it as not very "peaceful" due to the risk to others. But really, if you drive to a secluded place and then put warning signs up, I don't see the risk as that high. It says it's a "cheap and nasty" method, but I don't really see what the "nasty" description is based upon. The idea of becoming unconscious very quickly is very appealing to me. Interested to know what others think.

If you absolutely can't fail... you should choose a more proven method. No one can tell you if this will work and guarantee it.

From the thread that @Living sucks just linked, there is a quote from an MD, who says " there are an array of possible symptoms, some of which I have already described but include headache, fatigue,nausea,intense anxiety,mental disturbances,pulmonary edema,&respiratory arrest"

So I would say that this method would be 'nasty' because of the array of symptoms that youd be likely to encounter during this method.

The PPH gives this method a peacefulness score of 3.

I think it's pretty clear that this method would most likely not be a nice way to go. I'd look elsewhere personally.

Keep in mind when people reference incapacitation from a poisonous gas at a certain ppm, this predisposes instantaneously arriving at that concentration. The San Diego firedepartment did a nice study on h2s, and fatal concentrations were not achieved instantly (took several minutes). This means the time leading up to that would result in nasty, though not instantly lethal symptoms.

both cyanide and h2s work in the same general manner (mitochondrial atp uncoupler). Some gas chamber executions with cyanide were NOT pleasant.

Takes 4 minutes for the H2S to reach fatal level. In that time the acid causes burning of eyes, nose and lungs. Some have been known to wear goggles. What to do about the rest I am not sure.

I agree with what you said. It's accessible and thats got major appeal.

Don't do this. It is much more awful than you can imagine.

There's a chance my experience is already on one of those previous threads, so I'll skip most of it. You'll hurt. You cannot imagine how much this will hurt your body and your mind while you wait. Ducking in after the chemicals build up is not realistic - the levels will go back down when you open the door. If there is splash when the chemicals react, you may be severely harmed and the burning of your skin is like nothing you've ever felt before. (See the reaction in the last scenario in the fire department video - the reaction is violent, especially if you use a lot of chemicals to try to speed up the waiting time.) If you succeed, your skin will be grey and yellow and your corpse will be toxic waste.

Most importantly:
Other people could die - and they have. You don't want to be responsible for taking anyone else's life. That's a giant NO. Signs are not enough.

There are lots of other options here that will be better. Please reconsider - from someone who has been there.
