I just wanted to see if any knew of a tried and true way to permanently erase data from my phone whether it be text messages, in an app or search history?

Okay, after doing that won't they still be able to access it from my carrier?
Delete your google account if you use android and delete the apple id if you use iphone. Break the sim card after factory reset.

Is there a way to delete your Apple ID that they can't reverse?

I thought about this as well. I figured I would just break all parts of my phone.

I'm throwing my phone in a fire and making sure it's nothing but ashes.

I think this works. I like this idea
But my thinking is all of the data is somehow saved on the cloud or some kind of backup system. It is that system that I'm after

Thankfully I never set up my phone to back up like that. If you do have it backed up on the cloud, I'm sure there's ways to delete it

I worry about the carrier also. Can't the authorities summon something like Verizon to pull my records?

I don't think they can access your cloud account without your sim card or phone.

Not sure if phone companies keep track of your online visits. Text messages are gone once you hit delete. The only accessible thing they can retrieve are phone calls.

I Kind of go through purges of deleting everything when i get paranoid. R/Privacy has some amazing guides about how to almost forensically erase yourself from the internet.

Not sure about that. But I doubt they would go through all that trouble? I'm not sure, but for me, I'm not too worried about that

I love this idea but I also want to delete everything off my emails, texts and search history. I love erasing myself

I just don't want my privacy taken away by then pulling my stuff. I want it gone

Below is what I picked up on a search about deleting messages if you're using an Android....

Why It's Hard to Recover Texts on Android

It's difficult, and in some cases, impossible, to retrieve deleted messages due to how Android manages texting data. Unfortunately, there's no place like the recycle can on Windows or trash can on the Mac, where it keeps deleted files for a certain amount of days before really deleting them. Nor is there any sort of "undo" function for a deletion once you've done it.

Instead, when you delete something, Android marks it to be "overwritten" with new data. Think of it like erasing something from your to-do list with a pencil being able to write something new in the same space.

What you can try to do is restore the data from the location Android has placed it for deletion, which you can't reach via normal means. And if you are reading this article on the same phone you just deleted the text from, you might already be out of luck. To be clear, this is not guaranteed and the data may already be erased.

First, you need to understand that even if you "Delete" things, the company probably sold it, people saw it, it could still be out there.

If you just want to be gone, then dont worry too much about the actual back end data they have stored, fouc on the google/facebook/apple data that tracks your phone, gps and stuff. there are a ton of resources to purge places like reddit and other boards of all your posts and comments. Dont use google to try and find your stuff, use Duckduckgo, and other search providers, a lot of them show results google wont. If you want a true purge, run a live version of ubuntu on a laptop in security mode. when the laptop is rebooted, nothing is left to show that you deleted everything from a phone you then reset.

Personally i can be pretty hard to find if you dont know key things about me. my lease isnt even in my name, or my phone/internet. I think my landlord called me Ashley last time i saw him? like 2 years ago now.
