• Hey Guest,

An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.

Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.

It's no secret that law enforcement monitors this site, so i have a question for them: what do you think gives you the right (philosophically, not legally. Obviously the law you enforce gives you the legal right to do this) to control what other people may or may not do with their own lives and their own bodies? If it's just about a paycheck, that answer is boring. Like, come on: give us a good, compelling, moral reason you have for forcibly intervening and controlling what we do.

We aren't breaking any laws, here, so why would law enforcement be monitoring?

Some of the methods require illegal material, mostly drugs, and their illegal acquiring. Sometimes people come on here and want to do others harm in addition to themselves.

this still doesn't feel like enough to me. In Canada before it was legal to possess weed there were still tons of stores selling bongs and similar stuff. Those weren't shut down because of association with drugs, so why could this website be for discussing methods which require drugs?

Hell, even now you can purchase shrooms at these illegal shrooms dispensaries across the country. Though, I do feel like it is important to make a distinction between different types of illegal drugs. Drugs, like psychedelics and weed, are generally not on the top of the list when it comes to illegal drugs that law enforcement is worried about. I'd imagine that they probably are more likely to react to shit revolving around more stigmatized drugs, such as strong opioids. Even then, law enforcement is well-known for not reacting when they should be, even to shit happening right in front of them, so I doubt they are going to do much about it.

In my opinion persecuting users is not beneficial. There will always be more people getting addicted. What you have to do is control the supply. People cannot get high to begin with if there are no drugs being sold. Users and even street level dealers should be low priority. They don't matter without suppliers, distributers, cooks, and organizers. That's who needs to be taken down. Also, the pharmaceutical industry for ignoring the risks and turning a profit out of addictive drugs.

If you apply the same logic to SaSu, it doesn't make sense to go after the website. If we are users, then SaSu is a dealer. If they shut SaSu down a new forum will appear, people will still CTB no differently. Want to stop suicide? Stop the root causes. Depression, mental illness, disease, social isolation, etc.

Suicide and drug use are similar in my opinion. People don't just wake up and decide to kill themselves or shoot up IV drugs, they do it because they were exposed to other depressed people or because they needed an escape from the realities of the world.

Dear Law enforcement,

You are brown shirts and bootlickers. You abuse your power and happily kill citizens, including children.

You are monsters and I will never respect you.

Love,
Me

Had that in the US here too. They sold all that stuff under the pretense of using it for tobacco. Many of the drugs used here are prescription-only drugs, and many try to get them without prescriptions and succeed. It's more about finding out who the sources are and trying to shut them down.

I'd guess that "bongs and similar stuff" aren't primarily used to commit suicide. However I find it challenging to imagine many recreational uses for SN.
It's obviously the suppliers who are going to be the main target of any legal agencies monitoring this site. After all, there is at least one Canadian supplier who has fallen foul of such agencies.

I suppose the problem is- some people do commit suicide during a psychotic episode/ impulsively/ under the influence and as a minor. When a police officer spots someone on the wrong side of the railings on a bridge- how are they to determine that person's mental capacity? Obviously, they can't. Even by talking to them- they're not qualified to assess that- so- chances are, they will try to stop them and take them for assessment to somewhere people ought to know what they're doing- it's actually those people I have more problem with!

To flip the situation- why do suicidal people choose times and locations where they are very likely to be stopped? That doesn't exactly seem like clear, rational thinking. If we want to insist that suicide is a rational act and we know that people will try to stop it- if made aware of it- why do people leave themselves more at risk of being prevented?

If the police are making a welfare check- then- someone else tipped them off. Surely- it's them that ought to be blamed.

Things like SN, they likely want to do a blanket ban on because again- you can't expect a retailer to assess a person's state of mind. Bear in mind Kenneth Law sold to minors who then killed themselves. I imagine it's mostly parents who want people like that prevented and prosecuted.

Things would be a whole lot less complicated if assisted suicide was legalised. Then it could be strictly regulated to ensure people aren't making the decision impulsively or with diminished mental capacity. Seeing as it isn't though- a blanket ban seems inevitable. How else do you regulate something everyone potentially has access to?

People will also blame the police if they just let suicides happen. Imagine how a family would act if they just let that person jump off the bridge? I think people tend to ignore that it's the majority of the population that would rather not see their children, parents, partners, family members and friends suicide. It isn't just the police and our governments that are anti- suicide. They are really only enforcing what the majority of people want.

That's not to say it's what I want- obviously. I'm pro-choice. However, I recognise that free access to nembutal for all say would result in rioting in the streets most likely by angry parents and relatives. It's obvious that assisted suicide would have to be strictly regulated to be sustainable. Until then, it's obvious they will try to prevent all suicides. Otherwise- without solid guidelines- it's individuals making the decisions. Should the police officer ask the person's reasons hanging off the bridge then- let them jump if they sounded reasonable? Would their family be ok with that decision do you think?

To the LEA assigned to monitor me, please remember to stretch and hydrate. You need to be in top form when you conduct a raid on my house because I threatened to kill myself.
