Dear Insomniacs,

I am four days past my bedtime when I write this, tough I am sure you are not far behind.

The wise and witty have left us with a 'good night's sleep solves most of our problems', but they forget the prerequisite of solving sleep itself.

Our insomnia has been force-feeding us
with irrelevant facts, the chorus of 90s songs, and hidden childhood traumas at a time in the night (read: morning) when paranormal activities are at its peak.
My zombie shadow self has tried a lot of drugs and home-remedies under the sky to put a stopper on the escaping sleep. Their transition from being less effective to more addictive was covered on a jet.
From keeping a sleep-diary to being fluent in sleep-hygiene, I have invested in awareness.

Our reverse sleep cycle of waking up tired and going to bed wide awake seems alien to the 'normal people'. When they say 4AM (morning), we hear 4AM (night). Overthinking, anxiety, insomnia are our best friends and that too spoilt ones.

The other day someone was showing-off his 11 hours relaxing sleep, while it sounded as real as one horn unicorns to me.

For sleep-enthusiasts reading this post, we insomniacs do sleep, but in intervals on consecutive nights.

Our sleep pattern is identical to an ECG graph sometimes. There is a joke for you at the end of this post.

Psychologists say that the trigger for insomnia can be a place of grief or bereavement. Not only we are sleep deprived, now we are borderline depressed too. Thank you, science.
There is no peace in knowing that when their eyelids are heavy, our thoughts are heavier.

Want to hear a joke?
SLEEP.
I know. I don't get it either.

From,
Self-appointed Treasurer
No-sleep Association

SLEEP.
Want to hear an even better joke?
PSYCHIATRY. Ha!

...anyway, do you ever feel rejuvenated after several days of not sleeping or do you always feel like a walking zombie? I kind of enjoy it, this "sleepless high". The first day or two are difficult but after that I feel pretty great! I can get so much done! I probably wouldn't have had the strength or fortitude to plan out my death if I could sleep normally. I think insomnia can sometimes come in handy.

I've gone over six years with on average of three hours of sleep per night, I have such poor concentration that I couldn't get past the first paragraph of the op post without my brain starting to feel frazzled

My sleep is all over the place, but around 6am, my brain goes its time to sleep now... Yea would have been nice if you had done that 7 or 8 hours ago!

Six months, less than two hours a night. Gave me memory issues but weirdly, made me feel cleverer.:O

The despair and tears of madness that come from insomnia are impossible to describe. Noone is as tortured as insomniacs.

Only being able to sleep a few hours at a time is absolutely maddening. I no longer try to rest for those few hours and instead stay awake for as long as my body can handle...usually a week or so. I find that I feel so much better and that one night of sleep is much more restful and rejuvenating than a million of those lousy attempts at sleep.

During a sleepless night, you're left alone with your thoughts. Everything is quiet and dark. The world around you is sleeping. There is nothing around you. You're there by yourself.
