Just a disclaimer: try to avoid a concussion to the best of your ability. They truly are terrible and even "mild" or "minor" concussions can be nightmares and have consequences that reach far after the injury I'd "healed" or you are "recovered". If the actual complications due to the injury doesn't drive you crazy the resulting anxiety you're stuck with after will. I've had 2 within the past 8 months (never had one prior) and after my second one I've become obsessively afraid and anxious over the possibility of getting another one. It's fucking awful. 2024 has been the year from hell and it's ruined permanently what was starting to look like a super promising life. Tbh the concussive stuff is like 50% of what tore my life apart over the past several months enough to push me to being here. I just want to be dead and I wish the first hit to my head had been enough to kill me. It's far easier to get a concussion than a lot of people know or care to admit. I don't play sports or work construction or anything. I'm a book nerd and I'm here because I whacked my head in a doorway in the dark in December. So please God please please be careful and don't hurt yourself like I did. It's really lucky because relative to many other concussions mine probably was actually mild in comparison. I hope thos cautionary tale keeps y'all safe.

I had the same experience of avoiding sports and the like and still having a "mild" injury (busted tendons) mess up hope for the future. Paranoia's so bad I have trouble telling what's actual inability and what's imaginary.
Hugs and best of luck to you :( Everyone, take care of your arms and head

The one time I had a concussion, it was caused by taking a ground fall not much higher than standing height, in a weird way that gave me whiplash, when I was rock climbing. After that, I started climbing way more carefully and became really scared of sketchy moves where I actually have to jump up to grab the next hold. To this day there's still certain types of routes that scare the shit out of me.

I've had so many concussions that I've literally lost count, and almost none of them were my fault. I was a good, cautious kid, didn't really do "hard" sports, always wore my helmet when I had one, all the things I was supposed to do. injuries don't discriminate! because of post concussive issues, I've developed issues with word retrieval, aphasia, because of a particularly gnarly concussion, and it's embarrassing how I went from being known as an incredibly eloquent speaker to barely being able to remember the right word for "towel" at times. I think it also damaged my long term memory, to be honest.

i never got any of my concussions treated, mostly because I was a minor and didn't have any say so over the matter. please, everyone else, get your concussions treated. do NOT sleep for at least a few hours post concussion.

I've had a concussion when I was 12. I was on my bike and was hit by a car. My sister had a concussion, somebody pushed her and she fell off her bike. For a short time her short memory wasn't ok. She kept asking what time it was.

But we're both fine. Also, no headaches or something. (After my concussion I stayed in a darkened room for awhile and didn't watch TV or read )

The human body is very fragile . Many hundreds of horrible things can happen to any human any day concussions ,strokes, nasal infections called the suicide disease the pain is so bad, Lyme , cancer , kidnapping torture, cancer, disabling accidents, blindness, many diseases, disabilities, old age, dementia, parasites like tapeworms see monsters inside me show, many more. All this and how bad pain and old age is are hidden

All we see and hear is how amazing the human body is . It's really a prison a decaying torture chamber

I feel you. I'm so sorry you have to deal with the same paranoia shit. It's like even outside of the complications related directly to the injury, or even any incident tbh you can't really remove yourself from the fear brought on by the new awareness. I had that happen a lot in 2023 with weird occurrences and various fears but overall managed it well and that was a good year. But this is so different, the fear and paranoia controls me and it's a nightmare. I also relate to struggling to tell. It all sucks and I wish you the best.

I'm very glad eventually it all became more manageable for you but I definitely understand certain things still freaking you our so much. When my anxiety is heightened sometimes every little thing puts me in a panic.

That's rough and I'm very sorry. I can relate to feeling reduced by the injury. In my case I feel a lot 9f cognitive impairment too and it's hell. And thank you for urging people to take this seriously.

Don't worry, I won't. Jokes aside, at least maybe if I can get back to work I'll be able to afford putting a round through my skull. And that's the only think that could fix it.

I'm sorry that you both went through that and I'm glad you recovered. I wasn't so fortunate.

Yeah. It's the type of shit that makes me wish I was aborted. Had I known life would be this now over a seemingly small mistake I would've never dropped CTB after 2020 for the time I did. Our bodies are terrible and idk why there can't be more empathy from non-suicidal people on the point that death is preferable to being subject to the chaotic hand of chance. I'm not asking them to agree or treat thir own lives like that but PLS let me prefer death to it.

That really does sound so horrible and dreadful, it truly terrifies me how there is no limit as to how much a human can suffer in this existence, it's a reason as to why I'd personally prefer to not exist at all.

Once a kid at school pushed me into a locker so hard, the next day I had concussion. Wasn't well at all. Threw up, was dizzy etc. Didn't go to hospital or anything, it was only mild.

You want to kill yourself because of concussion? Your post implies that is the reason, but I can't be 100% sure.

Unfortunately these things can happen at any point. You can go from being an athlete, to one day smashing your head on a curb, resulting in paralysis. This can happen with suicide attempts also - I've seen disabilities after attempts, it's really sad

Yeah. It makes me wish i was aborted because I didn't sign up for this shit and I hate that chance has the ability to derail people like this.

I mean it's over a lot of things tbh, not just concussion related. But yeah, partly. It's not even about the concussions (plural) but all of the problems that resulted from them and the time I've lost as a result. It won't heal.

Yes, it is. It sounds like you and I have some of the same injuries. And I wouldn't wish these headaches and mental "deficits" off on my worst enemy. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. ❤️❤️

Had a similar thing happen to me when I was a kid. I was taken to hospital and treated for concussion straight away. I don't remember any adverse effects in the subsequent days or months, but constantly wonder whether it affected my mental state in the long term.

I get where you're coming from . I've had at least 7 in my life . Post concussion syndrome is a real thing . The worst part is the depression that it comes with and the trouble thinking , not to mention daily headaches . I've seen concussion specialist , physio , chiro, nerve blocks, Botox, vestibular therapy and I still suffer with symptoms after several months since my last one

I'm so sorry. It really is an awful injury. I don't even really get much attention or treatment from any medical professional. I'm sorry you've gone through all of that, that's a lot of injuries and I know how it feels in regards to the symptoms listed.

Sorry to hear about this

Playing sports as a kid I've had 4 different times where I saw "stars" and everything was spinning. I've always had some mental problems with trash genetics and a dysfunctional family before them, but just always wonder how much those things contributed to being as bad as I am now.

All the best, bro

i had one when i was quite young, i hit the back of my head on the edge of a knee-high stone wall from being shoved by a classmate. Ever since then ive been having weird falling sensations when laying on my back, which is annoying but not the worst. i got lucky nothing more serious happened

The brain can go through a lot and recover, you'd be surprised. Doctors would have said at the time if it would have impacted you later on in life.

Concussion isn't brain damage, it's a mild head injury that gets better. Symptoms aren't nice, of course, but it does get better

Glad you were fortunate enough to luck out from any really horrible complications but at the same time that's a very weird symptom and I'm sure it's kinda freaky. Best wishes.

I should state from the outset that im not trying to invalidate the possibility and benefits of healing or recovery, i just worry that your wording may give people the wrong impression or downplay risk.

You'd really be surprised by how bad and common PCS is. And it is classified as an injury, not like a tearing of the tissue or anything as extreme as some worse injuries or damage but it's far from nothing. Some people will recover relatively quickly with no longer term problems while others have reported issues years into the future; peoples bodies and brains are different and are going to respond and heal differently, but long term complications that impact quality of life and other important things aren't uncommon. I had worse luck, I had lasting issues, 2 within a year, and was forced to withdraw from college in between the 2 injuries (which in all fairness I'm not certain that everything that led to my departure from college was entirely concussion related, there's likely another issue too but I digress). As for doctors, you'd be shocked how useless the bulk of them can be for concussion.

So yeah not everyone is equally impacted poorly but honestly it's still your brain, which is pretty important and doesn't heal or regenerate cells in the same way other parts of the body do, so to anyone reading this please be safe, cautious and healthy with it. And for that matter with the rest of your body and health too. Try to forgo a concussion if at all possible.
