Cutting or carving?

first off thanks for the advice from my last post and now getting into it, i started cutting my right thigh or as im guessing its called carving as i have etched little carvings into it and i am here to get better advice on how to cut/carve better then i am already (without going super deep) ps both cutting and carving advice is welcomed :)
