I'm finally CTB tomorrow, hotel booked, nitrogen and mask arrived.

I have a motel booked around 45mins from home so I don't leave a bad memory in the small town where the people I love have to continue their lives.

I plan to check in around 4:00PM, spending most of the day with my German Shepard - going to miss him so much, so sad I wont get to see him grow up.

Thanks for everyone on the forums that have been here to support and guide me.

I'm sorry you feel the need to leave..

What about your dog? Will they be taken care of?

May I suggest postponing it a bit? Cause you need to find accommodations for your dog. Maybe surrender them to a no kill shelter? Or just stick around for a little bit and find someone to adopt him from you? Dogs lives are equally important. "mans best friend" after all. Idk. I'd just feel bad if my pets were witnesses to ctb. Also shouldnt you watch your dog grow up?? Like why subject him to that. I don't know. I just can't imagine ever leaving my pets behind. It seems… immoral? I don't know. Just getting a pet, dying, and they're left to what? Wonder why you aren't there anymore? Question why you left them behind? The only time I ever plan on saying goodbye to my dog is when she passes peacefully. Spending my life with my pets is the least I could do to ensure their safety and stability. It's not right to abandon your pets.

edit: sorry if this came off too strong. I'm just passionate about animals rights, adopt don't shop etc.

Hey, I'm saying this gently, but I don't think this is particularly helpful given the nature of the post. I'm sure OP has considered the best options for their pet and won't be leaving them stranded or anything. I understand your passion, but this comes across as quite guilt trippy, with similar energy to the 'don't do this, you have so much to live for' type comments. OP has clearly put a lot of time, thought, and effort into their decision, let's just trust that they're doing what's best for them and wish them well.

Sorry about that. I'm just a little worried. It wasn't my place to say that

As an owner of young dog(/s), finding them a good home was the only thing that got me through the winter.
It's damn tough.

I think I have a workaround, but by rescuing some street dogs I did not commit to outliving them.

It's bizarre that we treat pets so much better than humans... Rare to see someone make such a plea on behalf of children or partners...

Anyway, just wanted to agree with Midnight Dream. I am 100% certain this was a priority to the OP.

One interesting thing to add though. From the research I did over winter, there is an argument that they are better to witness your death. They accept it and move on that way. Dogs understand death well, and it could in some ways be kinder. I am still not 100% sure how I will approach it, but it causes me far more worries than possessions or family do.

There are no great answers, unfortunately.

Anyway, peaceful trip to the OP.

I understand what you mean. My cats are the biggest reason I haven't left yet, so I can imagine how hard it is. Your puppy dog will miss you, too, but if now is your time to ctb then he will understand. I am sure he has a good home to go to. Whether you decide to go today or stay a little longer to watch your German Shepard grow up, may you find peace and joy. May your journey be easy and peaceful when the time comes.

How are you dealing with leaving dog, family member? Rehome? This is my issue atm, or will he be there with you? I wish you well on your journey and hope you find peace.

This is what I struggle with, I have Noone to take them, will take to a no kill shelter, but they are my only company atm while suffering. I feel this post but I respect the need to ctb, just sucks.
