Would it hurt your family more if you ctb far away in a foreign country or after coming back to your hometown and living your last months with them? Or it doesn't matter?

I don't think that it matters really, I think that people are going to be affected by someone that they know dying no matter what. But after all, we all have to die somewhere, someday and grief and loss are simply an inevitable part of life. And it could never concern us how people would react to our death as we simply won't be there at that point.

I can't speak for your family but for mine it wouldn't matter. I'd CTB far away from home in a foreign country in my favourite city in a heart beat over CTB here.

Maybe if I did it in the hometown they would see my corps and suffer more horror from the details?

Or if it is far away they would suffer more from beurocracy of dealing with agencies and funeral?

not so much about the place but the suddenness as oppose to them slowly accepting your death due to a disease or medical reason. thats where it boils down to ultimately..

I think it depends how close and how far. They would indeed appreciate that is not done in their home where they can see the corpse. But they wouldn't appreciate out of state either cause moving the corpse after someone dies far away costs money that usually is a lot. The ideal distance is far enough not to be found quick but not too far either.

Exactly my thoughts. Along with potential exposure on the news/circulating on social media if thats something your worried about. I think outside town/city limits would be a good medium.

Haven't lived in my "hometown" for 40 years. Rest of family still there. I won't travel back there to CTB, I will make my journey where I live now, hours away from them. I think it will impact and affect them the same no matter where I CTB from.

Personally I would do it somewhere where I can not be reached as easily or well, found.
Risk of paramedics knocking on your door eventually leads to going to a mental hospital, I've been there, experienced it before.

But the family factor, as @FuneralCry mentioned it, it won't matter that much. Maybe if let's say you die somewhere far or in another country, them wanting to bring the body back may complicate them, but yeah.

It seems like dying in the comfort of one's own bed is hard. :/

I imagine both would be painful for different reasons. If it's their hometown as well- there are going to be reminders of the person all around. I imagine the thought of their loved one dying alone somewhere strange is kind of upsetting too. The death at home would likely intensify their pain but the death away would likely make them grieve on how alone the person was at the end.

I live alone and hundreds of miles away from my family and friends- so- I guess that solves that problem for me. I imagine it's a very difficult decision if you live with family. I can see why so many people CTB in hotels.

They have been following my medical and mental state reasons for a long time already, so it won't be much surprise, just 'finita la comedia'.
