As the firearms megathread seems to be both full of information and lacking in direction and specifics in many ways, I wanted to start this separate thread and keep it to handguns. There seems to be more info on N and SN and instructions on how too go about using both when a handgun to the head is the #1 way people ctb in the US and I think a lot of members on this site beyond myself are interested in learning more. While shotguns are a guaranteed can't miss way to do it, pulling the trigger on something with such a long barrel as well as the fact that you'll literally blow your entire head off makes it a non starter in my case. Just a little background: I've twice attempted and twice failed to ctb. The first was an impulsive, non researched attempt with pills which if I'd found this site then I wouldn't have bothered. I just slept for like two days. The second was with N I received from A. I had the N in my hands for four days before the cops showed up and confiscated it. I've been left with less desirable options, but a handgun the head seems to be the best and most painless solution.
Most people are aware at this point that a shotgun is a can't miss way to ctb but will also completely destroy your head and face in a way that no one, least of all a friend or family member deserves to see. I'm not saying a handgun doesn't have the potential to do the same but, if done right, from what I've read, you can keep the damage to the back of the head and spare your face. At least that what I think...maybe someone has a different perspective/experience with people they know who chose to end things this way.
From what I've gathered, handguns like a .357 magnum or a Colt .44 with hollow point bullets seems to be the handguns of choice. But again, there may be other types of handguns that are as well suited maybe even more so.
Universally it seems accepted wisdom that the sweet spot to aim for is the medulla. But specifics like how far in to push the barrel and what exact angle to aim the gun to hit the medulla appear to be difficult info to find. As well as disparate. I would assume a 45 degree angle aimed toward the back of the head would be the place to hit it but I've read stuff that says a 20 degree angle is what to aim for, which just seems to point more to the back of the throat/neck than into the brain. I'm certainly taking a crash course in anatomy here but any guidance would be appreciated.
Again, I don't want this to be about me but I read of a lot of people that do things like point under the chin which would most certainly fail and just leave you brain damaged and facially deformed. And I think there are many of this site with more wisdom on this subject matter than me or the others on here who have this as an option. Anyway, I'll start the thread and hope some of you folks on here can help! Thank you.
