"A significant association was found between any use of methamphetamine and any depression outcomes in cross-sectional"
Drugs are quite deceptive when it comes to their relationship with mental health. Most recreationall drugs will boost dopamine and therefore boost your mood. However this is only in the beginning of drug use! I can not stress this enough.
Even being aware of this makes it difficult to notice. But once you're addicted your brain will re-balance your dopamine levels and lower it's baseline dopamine. Meaning it will worsen your depression. Here's where the big deception comes in. At that point it really seems like it's helping because when you use you relieve your uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. The relief of withdraw feel like a boost, and it is a boost from your new much lowered baseline dopamine levels. But at the end of the day you are mentally worse off than before. Most meth heads I've known are not happy creatures.
I could be wrong but I think the two biggest differences between Meth (methamphetamine) and Adderall ( the ADHD drug amphetamines) are that meth is more potent and it crosses the blood brain barrier quicker this increasing it's addictive potential compared to Adderall.
